Bicycle tool test: Equipped with the Decathlon bicycle tool case 900, all maintenance and repair work on mountain bikes, city bikes, trekking bikes and racing bikes can be carried out according to the manufacturer. That sounds excellent, especially since the price is more than hot. The bicycle tool is offered at a price of just under 75 euros.
General information about the manufacturer
Decathlon is a French manufacturer and retailer of sports equipment of all kinds. The company operates in over 60 countries and has over 80 branches in Germany alone. Decathlon keeps everything in its own hands, from product development including conception and design to production and logistics to sales. A tight structure that is also reflected in the price for the customer. Despite the low prices, Decathlon focuses on sustainability. By 2026, greenhouse gas emissions are to be reduced by 53% compared to 2016 and 100% ecodesign products are to be offered.
Decathlon bike tool case 900: first impression
The compact tool case has a total of forty tools inside, which are clearly arranged and are therefore quickly to hand. The fixation of the individual parts is very good, even with rough handling of the case, they stay in place. We like both the layout and the case itself. However, Decathlon could safely do without the B'TWIN label glued to the case: the label comes off over time and thus spoils the look. Fortunately, the label can be removed quickly without leaving any residue.
Processing and feel
The quality and workmanship of the individual tools is perfectly fine for the price of just under 75 euros. The tools with coated handles are particularly striking. It is not only the color design that is pleasing here, but above all the ergonomic design. Even with the tire levers, Decathlon paid attention to ergonomics. A major point of criticism for bicycle cases in this price range is usually the chain tool. But the bicycle tool case 900 is also exemplary in this respect: the tool lies comfortably in the hand and enables efficient work.
Which repairs are possible and can the tool convince in use?
With the Decathlon bike tool case 900, amateur mechanics can carry out a lot of work on the bike themselves. The selection is good and sufficient for basic repairs unless special tools are required. A chainring screw holder and various Torx bits were also thought of. Of course, tools such as a torque wrench, Bowden cable pliers or press-in tools should not be expected for the price of 74,99 euros. Due to its compact size, the tool case 900 is not only suitable for the hobby workshop, but also very good for mobile use.
