Cycling: Bryan Coquard (Vital Concept) finally got his first win of the season. On the first stage of the Tour of Oman, the Frenchman sprinted across the line in front of Mark Cavendish (Dimension Data). So he will start tomorrow in the leader's jersey. The tour runs until Sunday and will be decided one day before the end at Green Mountain. Germany's Max Walscheid (Sunweb) finished fifth in today's mass sprint.

Some stars at the 9th Tour of Oman
The Tour of Oman is taking place for the ninth time since 2010 as part of the UCI calendar. The previous record winner Chris Froome (Sky), however, will not be at the start as the Brit will start his season at the Ruta del Sol tomorrow. Also not there: last year's winner Ben Hermans (Israel Cycling Academy). Among others, the top stars who have registered for the overall ranking include: Vincenzo Nibali (Bahrain-Merida), Rui Costa (UAE Team Emirates) and Miguel Angel Lopez (Astana).

Coquard can finally celebrate
However, the overall classification will not be decided until the fifth stage on Green Mountain. Before that, the focus is on the sprinters. There was also a mass sprint on the opening stage after 162,5 kilometers from Nizwa to Sultan Qaboos University. In this had Bryan coquard (Vital Concept) is one step ahead. The French won before Mark Cavendish (dimension data), James Nizzolo (Trek Segafredo), Bouhanni born (Cofidis) and Max Walscheid (Sunweb). So far, Coquard's season has been anything but satisfactory. At the Sharjah Tour and the Etoile de Bessèges he was denied a stage win. In France he even thought he had won but he cheered too soon. Coquard is rightly happy this time. He is the first to wear the leader's jersey at the 2018 Tour of Oman.
