4 October 2022 by Michael Behringer

Kooij Muensterland

The Sparkassen Münsterland Giro was also a great success in 2022. After Mark Cavendish triumphed last year and Tom Boonen, Sam Bennett, Andre Greipel and Marcel Kittel had won here in the past, the one-day race welcomed some of the best sprinters in the world again this year. Among other things, they competed on the 205,9-kilometer course from Telgte to Münster Jasper Phillipsen (Alpecin – Deceuninck), Fabio Jacobsen (Quick Step Alpha Vinyl), Dylan Groenewegen (BikeExchange – Jayco) and Sam Bennett (Bora – hansgrohe) against each other. In the end, however, they all lost out. Olav Kooij (Jumbo – Visma) should easily win the mass sprint ahead of Philipsen. Third place can be surprising Max Walscheid (Cofidis) rejoice. The German won here in 2018 but has had a difficult year.
