GP de Denain: Max Walscheid WINS the mass sprint

March 18, 2022 by Michael Behringer

Walscheid Max Denain

Cycling: Max Walscheid won the Grand Prix de Denain. The German prevailed in the mass sprint ahead of Belgian Dries De Bondt, confirming his strong form.

Walscheid becomes a sprinter again

It has already been indicated in the past few weeks: Max Walscheid (Cofidis) appears again as a sprinter. The 28-year-old German finished second at Nokere Koerse on Wednesday and finally won the Grand Prix de Denain on Thursday. In the mass sprint he left the Belgian Dries de Bondt (Alpecin – Fenix) and the French Adrian Petit (Intermarché – Wanty – Gobert Matériaux) behind. While last year he appeared mainly as a strong time trialist, after his team change this season he seems to shine again as a sprinter. Max Walscheid celebrated his last victory in February two years ago when he won a stage at the Tour de Langkawi - apart from the world title 21 in the mixed team time trial, of course.
