Test: Sounds strange, lubricates well: chain wax. A new chain oil had to hold its own in the Velomotion test in the cross-country winter - and was fully convincing.
If you name your product Kettenwixe Duraglide and present it in white and gold packaging, you have to have something up your sleeve – anything else would be embarrassing. So what is it about the oil from Lahnstein-based supplier Laufrad Racingbikes OHG? Spray and dropper bottle reveal little: "Kettenwixe Duraglide attracts less dirt than conventional bicycle oils and lasts longer" - everyone can say that at first, and in general, trying out chain lubricants is more important than studying marketing information.
Kettenwixe hardly attracts dirt
We did the former for a long cyclocross season – cycling in conditions that posed real challenges to the chain and drivetrain. And what must say? The Wixe keeps what it promises. And without the time-consuming degreasing and preparation of the chain: Wipe clean, apply the lubricant sparingly to the rollers, wipe off any excess oil, and off you go - with the result that the chain runs quietly and smoothly on the way and still pretty when you come back looks clean, also does not crunch suspiciously. The chain wax hardly attracts any dirt, which reduces friction and wear - and that's what chain oils are ultimately about.
Back in the bike room, we rub the chain with an old rag. Now it shines beautifully again and hardly leaves any black marks on your fingers when you touch it. The inner flaps, on which dirt otherwise quickly accumulates, are also comparatively clean. Cumbersome chain cleaning measures can thus be saved.
Apply chain wax before every (dirty) ride
And so we are certain: "Kettenwixe Duraglide" sounds strange at first, but behind it is a user-friendly oil that, as promised, ensures smooth running and cleanliness. However, you should use the product before every ride if you want to optimize the running properties of the chain, and then the 50 ml bottle won't last forever. At €6,95, it's pretty cheap for that.
