Eurobike 2022 / product news: For us, the first day of Eurobike 2022 was all about e-bike motors and drives. There is a lot of news to discover here in Frankfurt - from the big names like Bosch and Shimano to TQ and the new Light E-MTB system from TQ or newcomers from the Far East.
Bosch: New motor in sight? Numerous innovations in the Smart System
In the run-up to the trade fair, Bosch presented a large number of innovations for the Smart System introduced last year. In addition to the well-known CX motor, there is now also the proven Performance Line with 75 Nm of torque and a natural riding experience, the powerful Cargo Line and also the S-Pedelec Motor Performance Line Speed. In addition, Bosch is introducing the new Auto Mode, a somewhat tamer version of the E-MTB mode that automatically adjusts the support power. The new Cargo Mode behaves in a similar way, which is intended to ensure constant support with different loads.
Bosch E-Bike News 2023: New motors, batteries, ABS and controls for the Smart System
Eurobike 2022 / product news: One day before the official start of the Eurobike, Bosch presented a whole bunch of new products for the 2023 model year. These included numerous well-known (or new?) motors for the Smart System, new battery options, a new generation of the E -Bike ABS and the system controller including mini remote. There is also […]
There is now a lot more choice when it comes to batteries - the integrated Powertube batteries will be available from 2023 with 500, 625 or 750 Wh, plus new external batteries with 545 or 725 Wh.
In addition, Bosch fans can look forward to updates in the Flow app that improve navigation. The eagerly awaited anti-theft protection will also be available in conjunction with a ConnectModule from 2023 – including an acoustic alarm and real-time GPS tracking.
A highlight for 2023 will also be the new Bosch E-Bike ABS Gen 2, which is not only visually much less conspicuous, but also improves its function; A total of four different modes - Tour, Allroad, Trail and Cargo - should cover a wide spectrum. We have already been able to test the trail mode extensively and were very impressed!
Bosch e-bike ABS Gen 2: Smaller, more versatile, better? The new Bosch ABS in the trail test!
Product news / test: With the Bosch E-Bike ABS Gen 2, the brake assistant should also be socially acceptable on e-bikes in the future - with a significantly improved look and different modes for different areas of use, from cargo to trail. We have already been able to test the system. ABS on e-bikes is not a real innovation in itself. A few years ago […]
No real news, but we were able to make an exciting discovery at the Bulls stand: The motor on the new Sonic Evo AM Team is wrapped in Erlkönig film - even if the data sheet says a "normal" CX motor, we suspect an innovation here - maybe in the next few days or weeks?
Eurobike 2022: New Bosch motor approaching?
Eurobike 2022 / E-Bike: Could a new Bosch motor be coming soon? Actually, we wouldn't have expected it after the flood of news from the manufacturer from southern Germany yesterday, but a new E-MTB at the Bulls stand makes us doubt. The unmistakably Bosch-equipped Bulls Sonic EVO AM Team comes with a cloaked motor. The Eurobike […]
Shimano: Two new drives, also with ABS system
There was almost as much news as there was at Bosch, perhaps at Shimano's biggest competitor. Two new engines were introduced here for the coming season, the EP801 and the EP6. Both have a new interface in common that is intended to prepare the drives for the (smart) future. Otherwise, the EP801 is an improved variant of the proven EP8 in the familiar housing, but with slightly improved performance: the 85 Nm of torque should now be available over a wide range of cadences.
Shimano EP801 and Shimano EP6: New drive systems presented
Eurobike 2022 / product news: The Eurobike hasn't really started yet, when the first exciting news are already fluttering into the mailbox - Shimano is presenting a whole range of new products, in addition to two new electronic Di2 groupsets for MTB (XT) and City (Cues ) also the brand new Shimano EP6 motor and a new revision of the […]
The Shimano EP6, on the other hand, is completely new and is aimed at attacking the middle class: for a lower price, you get up to 85 Nm of torque and an exterior that is just as compact as the EP8. However, since the case is not made of magnesium but of aluminum, the weight is a bit higher: the EP3,0 is said to weigh 6 kg - around 300 g more than the EP8.
Also surprising was the announcement of their own ABS system, for which the Italians from Blubrake were brought on board as a cooperation partner. The invisible system, which can be fully integrated into the frame, communicates with the new drives and works with Shimano stoppers.
TQ: Lightweight drive system with 50 Nm under 4 kg
TQ HPR50: New drive system for light E-MTBs presented
E-MTB / product news: With the TQ HPR50 we can look forward to a new drive especially for light E-MTBs. With a complete system weight of less than 4 kilograms, it is one of the lightest things on the market and with 50 Nm of torque and a 360 Wh battery, the technical data also seem promising. There is movement […]
With the TQ HPR50, the manufacturer from southern Germany presents its second e-bike drive system. In contrast to the super-powerful HPR120s, there is "only" 50 Nm of torque here, but the entire system including the battery weighs less than 4 kg. The extremely small motor relies on the well-known Harmonic Pin Ring technology, which does not have gears, belts or chains inside.
The battery has 360 Wh in the frame, and a further 160 Wh can be optionally retrofitted in the form of a range extender. It is operated using a modern concept consisting of an OLED display in the top tube and a compact control unit on the handlebars. With the Trek Fuel EXe, the first bike with the new drive was also presented.
Bafang M820: Motor between light and full power E-MTB
Actually one of the big names in the field of e-bike motors, but mostly only a marginal phenomenon in this country: At Bafang there have always been exciting drives to discover and this year is no exception. Above all, the new M820 caught our eye: With its weight of 2,3 kg, compact dimensions and a maximum torque of 75 Nm, it is placed exactly between light systems such as Fazua or the TQ HPR50 and "full throttle" engines. Exciting!
