Eurobike 2022 News & Impressions: E-Bikes, Biobikes & Curiosities

Eurobike impressions

Eurobike 2022: Interesting and curious ideas

A bike frame made from recycled plastic? Is there! We're not talking about a high-end bike here, but about cheap bikes for everyone. Muzzicycles from Brazil even offers a lifetime guarantee on the frames. We like the idea, because a bike made from "garbage" is certainly better for the environment than the hazardous waste that is produced by many carbon frames at the end of their lives.

In addition to the plastic frame, you can see frames made of bamboo and wood from time to time. Since bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants, the ecological aspect is particularly interesting here. We also like the look.

But you can also simply press two sheets of metal into shape and connect them together. Zack, a bicycle frame is finished and it is one of the curiosities of the Eurobike 2022:

Even cardboard has now found its way into frame construction. However, we question the handling characteristics of this bike:

Who would have thought it a few years ago: The rear end of the Specialized Demo downhill bike on a step-through! So that you can drive really comfortably, there is also a spring-loaded seat post on top!

Eurobike 2022: color and bright colors are coming

Gone are the boring parts, bikes and gear that only come in black or white. In some places you might think that there is now a prize for the flashiest colors and concepts. We mostly like it.

Speaking of helmets: Removable chin guards are trending! And a sensible thing to do if you just want to own a helmet.

What different tube sets for a bicycle frame actually are could also pass as art:

Those who like it really colorful will also get their money's worth:

Or rather elegant and monochrome for young and old:

There is also something for every taste when it comes to the components. Are you also fast as lightning with these pedals?

In any case, you can sit elegantly and comfortably at Selle San Marco:

Eurobike 2022: Beautiful bikes, interesting designs

In addition to the curiosities, there were also really well thought-out concepts and beautiful bikes for every application at the Eurobike 2022. The simple, elegant design by Modmo, for example - here you can attach various things to the rear and front, such as luggage racks and bottle holders. This makes the e-bike quite versatile. We like the concept!

In addition to e-MTBs (which we will be testing soon), MV Agusta also produces elegant city bikes. Among other things, the tidy cockpit and very beautiful milled parts from our own company ensure the noble finish.

The MV Agusta Enduro was one of the E-MTB highlights for us and we are already looking forward to our test bike.

In addition to unusual frame shapes, you could find many beautifully reduced e-bikes. And some manufacturers also use the saddle tube as a battery compartment - if there is one at all!

A balance bike for kids with a motor and battery from the DIY sector? No problem for Husqvarna! The eDrive 16 is a truly unique children's bike. Of course, there is also the right vehicle for mum and dad - the new frame for the MountainCross looks great.

At the HoheAcht stand, we encountered the new Amuza, an E-MTB that is probably unique at the moment: the hardtail comes with 150 mm of spring travel and bike park approval, so it's built to shoot, uses a Shimano EP8 motor and a permanently integrated 360 Wh battery. In the top version, the scales should remain at only 15 kg, also thanks to the carbon frame - impressive! Optionally, the bike can even be equipped with a large 360 Wh range extender for day trips.

In the area of non-motorized bikes, as in previous years, it was primarily the gravel bikes that attracted the most attention. One of the highlights must have been the new Kettler Scinto; the first gravel bike from the traditional brand comes with a visually and technically exciting aluminum frame that offers the owner all possibilities. From the sporty gravel racer to the comfortable commuter bike.

Lots of new drives and engines

Of course, the engine and drive manufacturers also used the large stage in Frankfurt to present their innovations.

At Shimano there was the EP6 and a new revision of the EP8, the EP801 two new engine units to see. Appropriately, the Japanese also presented new control panels and updates for their E-Tube Project App.

The focus was on Bosch on the ABS system in the second generation, but the Swabians also laid in the smart system with three motors (Performance Line, Cargo Line and Performance Line Speed) and various battery sizes (Powertube 500 and 625, Powerpack 545 and 725). Fans of minimalist operating concepts can also look forward to the system controller and the mini remote.

In addition to the two drive giants, there was much more to discover. Including the new lightweight HPR50 system from TQ or smaller or less common manufacturers in this country such as Bafang or Mivice, who also have quite interesting motors in their portfolio.

We were also curious about an apparently new motor from Bosch, still wrapped in Erlkönig foil, which we discovered at the Bulls stand. From the outside it is reminiscent of the well-known Bosch CX, but we should expect a successor or another variant soon. Incidentally, it was installed on the new Sonic EVO AM Team, which is designed for e-racing with high-end components. Accordingly, the new engine should also go in a similar direction.
