Testing CONTEC Air Support Sport floor pump: Wobbly candidate in a variety of colors

February 8rd 2022 by Andrew Waldera

Test CONTEC Air Support Sport: According to the manufacturer, the CONTEC hand compressor Air Support Sport is suitable for everyone, from die-hard professional cyclists to beginners, due to its ease of use and versatility. The floor pump is available in various color versions, the maximum pump pressure is estimated at 11 bar. In connection with the price of 39,95 euros, this seems to be a very tempting offer.

Structure of the Air Support Sport floor pump

The pump body made of steel sits on a double-sided pump base. Plastic dominates here and doesn't exactly give the pump a high-quality touch. The narrow "wings" of the foot are striking. The designers were also frugal when dimensioning the lifting body. The total height of the pump is only 63 centimeters. Space-saving yes, but also useful? The maximum pump capacity is 11 bar (160 psi); the analog pressure gauge on the base provides information about the current pump pressure. The twin head allows the inflation of car (AV), Dunlop (DV) and Presta (SV) valves, thanks to the supplied adapter it is also possible to fill footballs and air mattresses.

function and feel

The twin head allows use with different valves and seals reliably when inflated. The locking by means of the folding lever is a bit stiff, but still works quite well by hand. Pumping it up, on the other hand, is more complicated. The foot of the pump is so tight that it is almost impossible to fix it with your feet. But not only the shaky stand annoyed. The high proportion of plastic has a negative effect on rigidity. This is particularly noticeable at higher pressures. It's a pity, because the pump performance is quite good. At pressures above 6 bar, however, more effort is required due to the small pump body. The ergonomic handle with colored rubber inserts is positive, we would have liked more contrast and a larger diameter for the manometer.

Unfortunately, the CONTEC Air Support Sport floor pump did not deliver a convincing performance. We were particularly disappointed with the wobbly stand and the low height, which will mostly bring taller people to their knees. The beautiful ergonomic handle with the colored rubber inserts cannot console you.
