Product news / E-MTB: Lots of news from Canyon – the Koblenz-based e-mountain bikes will all come with the current Shimano EP8 motor, which replaces the previous E8000. In some cases, the battery capacity also increases to 630 Wh. There is also a new addition to the portfolio with the Torque:ON. We give you an overview of the Canyon E-MTBs 2021.
Canyon E-MTBs 2021: Shimano EP8 for everyone!
At the latest after the presentation of the new Shimano EP8 last summer, it was clear: the predecessor E8000 will disappear from the market step by step. However, since the Japanese made sure that the new engine, despite its smaller dimensions, fits into the mount of its predecessor, the associated adjustments by the manufacturers were limited. This also makes it possible for Canyon to update the entire E-MTB portfolio from hardtail to freerider to the new drive in one fell swoop. All models are now available with the new motor and also many models with the 630 Wh battery.
The advantages of the new engine are quite considerable: Even if we liked the E8000 and it was still able to keep up well with the much younger competition until the end, its age was noticeable here and there. Especially in terms of maximum power and volume, it fell noticeably behind the current Bosch CX or even the Drive S Mag from Brose. The EP8 closes this gap: With a maximum of 85 Nm of torque, it is just as powerful as the competition – but at the same time it weighs less (2,6 kg) and is significantly less loud.

Shimano EP8 motor presented: The new E-MTB reference?
Product News / E-Performance: With the Shimano EP8, the bicycle giant is introducing a completely new E-MTB drive that will inherit the successful and groundbreaking E8000. When it comes to maximum performance, it catches up with the competition, and when it comes to weight, it even undercuts them. He also has a few other aces up his sleeve. We turn the wheel of time a little [...]
