Canyon Spectral:ON 2021: Update with EP8 and larger battery

25 January 2021 by Michael Faiss

Product news / E-MTB: Only introduced last year, the Canyon Spectral:ON has already received a comprehensive upgrade for 2021. While the frame and alignment remain the same, all models now feature the new Shimano EP8 motor and larger 630 Wh battery.

As a fun all-round E-MTB for trail lovers, Canyon presented a completely updated version of its Spectral:ON just last year. The basic features of the trail bike remain the same for this season, which means: carbon frames in all equipment variants, a balanced, very modern geometry and a lively chassis meet 150 mm of spring travel and a mullet wheel mix of 29er in front and 650b wheel in the rear.

Now with Shimano EP8 and up to 630 Wh battery

So everything as usual? No not really. There is news in terms of the drive, even if it shouldn't come as a surprise to industry experts: Canyon has replaced the Shimano E8000 motor with its successor, the EP8, which is also powered by a larger battery. The Shimano BT8036 battery with 630 Wh is now in the down tube. The additional weight of the larger battery should be almost entirely offset by the weight savings of the new motor - nice!

Canyon Spectral:ON models and trim levels

Instead of three as before, the Canyon Spectral:ON will now be available in four configurations, two of them also in the special women's version with the suffix WMN. The entry-level model Spectral:ON 6.0 is new, but at 4.599 euros it costs the same as the Spectral:ON 7.0 from the previous year. Even if you have to cut back a bit on the equipment - for example the chassis - this small price increase is okay due to the new motor, the larger battery and, last but not least, the delivery situation caused by the pandemic, especially since the new entry-level model is also trail-ready .
