Product news: The Orbea Ordu is the latest triathlon bike from the Spanish manufacturer. Aerodynamics, low weight, first-class handling and ergonomics are combined in an elegant way. This machine was developed for ambitious triathletes who want to get the last percent out of themselves and the material.
Aerodynamics, stiffness or weight? If you "only" perfect one factor, you still don't have a perfect bike, sometimes not even a good one, because the other factors usually suffer from the specific orientation. Even with a triathlon bike, where speed is the primary concern, the other relevant factors besides weight must not be neglected. The key to success in developing the Orbea Ordu was finding the right balance between these three points. But that's not all, because in addition to aerodynamics, rigidity and weight, special attention has also been paid to other relevant properties such as ergonomics and handling. This makes the Orbea Ordu a highly integrated and light triathlon bike that brings a lot of speed and comfortable handling.
Orbea Ordu – Aerodynamics
More than 2.500 hours were invested in analyzing the structure of the frame, fork and cockpit and identifying the areas that need to be reworked for reduced drag. Whether it's the brakes, wheels, handlebars, seat post, drinking system or storage compartment, every detail of the entire system was considered and examined individually during the analysis. In order to achieve even better results and first-class aerodynamics, all components were integrated into the system in the best possible way and all details were coordinated with each other.
With the new frame of the Orbea Ordu, the drag has been reduced by a total of 11,5%. This corresponds to an aerodynamic advantage of 41 seconds over a distance of 180 kilometers and an average speed of 43 km/h.
Orbea Ordu - The weight
In order to fine-tune the weight, all areas of the bike were considered in which a particularly large amount of material is used, for example for high rigidity. The weight was significantly reduced through revised shapes, an adapted lamination process and the use of the highest quality carbon fibers. However, in order to continue to be able to guarantee sufficient stability and the best possible power transmission, the material was adapted accordingly for each frame size and the associated stiffness values. In this way, both small and large riders get a perfect bike. Overall, according to Orbea, the set weighs the following values:
Frame: 1130g + Fork: 440g + Seatpost: 180g + Basebar: 245g
Orbea Ordu – The handling
A faster and lighter bike is only an advantage if you can control it. One of the most important points in the development of the geometry was the easy handling of the Ordu. After all, what's the point of good aerodynamics on straight stretches if you let the whole time down in more technical sections due to miserable handling. It was therefore particularly important to the developers to enable safe and problem-free control of the bike.
On the one hand, a longer reach has increased stability, which is particularly noticeable in an aerodynamic seating position with the elbows in the pads. At the same time, the bike reacts more directly to steering maneuvers with a steering angle of 72°. In combination with the lowered bottom bracket, this ensures better weight distribution and balance.
Orbea Ordu – Ergonomics
The Orbea Ordu was designed to fit as many riders as possible. The ergonomics can be changed quickly and easily over a wide range in just a few simple steps. So the Ordu can easily be adjusted to different drivers or racing regulations. It doesn't matter whether you're very agile or a little stiff at the hips: the Ordu adapts to you. This large adjustment range of stack, reach, armrests, cockpit and seat post not only allows precise optimization of the seating position, it also leads to improved performance overall, because in a more comfortable seating position you automatically ride faster and pain-free.
