Test: With a whopping 170mm of spring travel at the front, the SX variant of the well-known eMTB evergreen from BMC is well prepared for difficult terrain. The other equipment and the great chassis also match. However, you have to make sensitive compromises with the motor and the geometry may not really suit the full-throttle character of the Shimano E-MTB.

The BMC Traiflox AMP SX Two proves how chic an E-MTB with a beefy look can look. Despite the mighty tube diameter and thick semi-plus tires, the Swiss bike looks almost elegant - the bright flip-flop paintwork may also have a part in it. To get straight to the point: This visual impression is also reflected in the handling: the bike swallows up the roughest obstacles almost elegantly, but at the same time it seems a bit sluggish and doesn’t really like to rev up.

Weak Shimano E7000 motor
In our test field, the BMC was one of only two bikes equipped with the Shimano E7000 motor. The drive, which can hardly be distinguished visually from its big brother, only delivers a maximum of 60Nm on paper. This is also noticeable in practice. It lacks a bit of punch and you have to pedal hard on really steep ramps - fortunately the Traiflox AMP with the Eagle gearshift has a suitable, easy gear for such situations. On the other hand, the barely perceptible background noise of the engine and the very tidy cockpit with a compact but good display and intuitive control unit are absolutely positive.

Otherwise, the BMC benefits enormously from the very grippy Vittoria tires on the climbs. The Mota DH are officially "only" 2,5 inches wide, but on the bike's wide rims they should be more the size of ordinary 2,8 plus tires. The chassis is also active when seated, smoothing out any obstacles but staying comfortably high in the spring deflection. Due to the overall rather compact geometry, you don't have to fight with a rising front wheel and you can usually pedal efficiently while sitting.

Great suspension and powerful brakes
On the way down, it's again the chassis and tires that initially have a very positive effect. The rear end in particular proves to be a real "obstacle vacuum cleaner", but is progressive enough to cope with jumps and drops without any problems. At the front, the Fox 36 Performance does its job with a lot of composure and, at 170mm, offers even more travel than the rear. The tires can again score with a lot of grip, but also a very good self-damping. The fact that BMC also provides the driver with a very good brake with the Magura MT5 also has an effect on the high level of safety.
Despite all these positive characteristics: The Trailfox AMP SX Two doesn't really feel comfortable on the descent when it's really fast. It seems quite sluggish when changing direction, but due to the somewhat stocky position on the bike and a high front end, it quickly gets nervous. However, as soon as you slow down again, these disadvantages recede into the background. It's still a shame, because the excellent chassis has enormous downhill potential - even for full-throttle action.
