Rad-News / Jedermann: Together with the German Cycling Academy GCA, the German Cyclist Association is organizing three virtual bike tours this winter as part of the BDR Winter Gran Fondo. As with a "real" RTF, the participants go together on the almost 73-kilometer route. Registered bike tour riders with a BDR rating card can even collect RTF points.
The Gran Fondo is driven in Watopia's digital ZWIFT world. The flat to bumpy course is 72,9 kilometers long with a manageable 1.010 meters in altitude. However, the final ascent alone already has 400 meters in altitude - at the end it means pedaling properly again. The virtual bike tours will take place on three dates: February 09th, February 16th and February 23rd at 10.00 a.m. The BDR Winter Gran Fondo is open to everyone, including non-BDR members. As motivation for the virtual tours, the BDR has invited national drivers and professionals who will accompany the VRTFs. According to BDR coordinator Bernd Schmidt, a large series with several dates and courses is already planned for the next off-season.
“We have implemented a sustainable project in a very short time. With ZWIFT we have a renowned partner at our side. This will be a lot of fun for all participants, because there are already over 200.000 ZWIFT accounts in Germany.” – BDR coordinator Bernd Schmidt
