Eurobike 2019: Wahoo with various updates and the Wahoo Kickr Bike

September 10, 2019 by Florian Nowak

Eurobike 2019/product news: Wahoo has been one of the leading companies when it comes to fitness apps, bike computers and indoor bike fun for a number of years. With various updates to existing products and the launch of the Wahoo Kickr Bike, the aim is to cater even more to the individual needs of cycling fans and offer them an unprecedented indoor bike experience.

Updates to Wahoo Elements

Wahoo is now expanding the connectivity options of its Wahoo Elment GPS bike computer line with newly released software updates. This allows Wahooligans around the
world via expanded connection options and the integration of new partner functionalities
looking forward.

As the first major update, all Wahoo Elment GPS bike computers, including the new Elment Roam, now have ANT+ radar support - this means that all bike computers can be connected via ANT+ to corresponding devices that warn the cyclist when a vehicle approaches from behind, and they also work with it as a safety tool during training. With this, Wahoo Fitness is responding to the multiple requests of Wahooligans and is making this important safety feature available for all bike computers with the software update that is now available.

Another update feature is the newly designed Elment integration with the outdoor workouts of the TrainerRoad software. The bike computer is also used on the roads of this world as a useful training control tool for all structured training specifications of the well-known TrainerRoad app.

With the current update, a maximum of three workout days can be displayed and, if necessary, selected directly on the computer. TrainerRoad will inherit some of the same benefits from other apps such as Today's Plan and Training Peaks, further enhancing synchronized outdoor training opportunities. This advanced functionality will be available for all Wahoo Elemnt in a later software update this fall.

“The various platforms offer their users differentiated services and functionalities, which is why modern bike computers must be as integrable as possible. We want to keep pushing the limits of performance and security with our products, that's what drives us when developing key updates like this.” – Megan Powers, Product Manager at Wahoo

Updates for Wahoo Kickr

The Wahoo Kickr series also gets a series of updates. Thanks to new software updates, the scope of performance of the Kickr Smart Trainer has been expanded. The current generation of Kickr and Kickr Core smart trainers are further enhanced by these updates. An important new feature is the "Multiple Bluetooth Connection", which can now be used to connect several Bluetooth sensors directly to the trainer faster and more precisely. Kickr and Kickr Core Smart Trainers now provide an additional signal for an integrated cadence measurement. This makes an additional sensor and the coupling of one superfluous.

In addition, the Kickr Snap is redefined as an entry-level model with an RRP of almost 500 euros and should enable entry into Wahoo's indoor training landscape.

Wahoo Kickr Bike - The revolutionary indoor bike

With the Wahoo Kickr Bike, Wahoo is introducing the first smart bike based on the world's leading indoor cycling ecosystems. The Wahoo Kickr Bike is the culmination of years of experience developing the Kickr ecosystem and integrated training tools. Like all Wahoo products, the Kickr Bike was developed with the aim of being easy to use, offering a superior ride experience, comprehensive connectivity and maximum adaptability. Developed for passionate cyclists and triathletes who only settle for the best. The Wahoo Kickr Bike is made for everyone, but was specially developed to meet the needs of all athletes who want an uncompromising solution for their year-round training.

“Over the past five years we have seen an incredible boom in indoor cycling and of course in sales of our Kickr indoor smart trainers. During that time, we've launched the most comprehensive ecosystem of connected indoor cycling products. The Wahoo Kickr Bike represents the next generation of Wahoo in this booming market, delivering the most comprehensive and unparalleled riding experience in length adjustments for perfect pedal strokes without any adapters.” —Mike Saturnia, CEO of Wahoo Fitness

The virtual cockpit settings not only allow the gearshift and the positions and configuration of the shifters, but also provide tilt buttons on the shifter to manually control the gradient percentage or to connect to apps from other software providers such as Zwift or The Sufferfest .

“Our Wahoo Kickr Bike defines the highest possible standard in terms of indoor smart bike performance with a wealth of different features. We went a long way during development to create a bike that, with its wide range of functions, is easy and intuitive to set up and operate. We knew from the start that a Kickr bike had to be as user-friendly as possible so that Wahooligans and those aspiring to be could focus on their training.” – Jose Mendes, Director of Product Management at Wahoo

The Wahoo Kickr Bike will hit US stores in October 2019 and will retail for $3.499,99. In Europe, the Wahoo Kickr bikes will be seen early next year.
