Cycling: lucky in disguise for Tomasz Marczynski (Lotto Soudal). The Pole collided with a car during training and fell. He did not suffer any fractures, but suffered serious bruises on his face.
Marczynski had just returned to training
Tomasz Marczynski is a late starter. The Pole became Polish champion for the first time at the age of 23, but after that his career stalled a bit. His absolute breakthrough came only last year. Marczynski celebrated two stage wins at the Vuelta a Espana. He won Stage #6 and stage #12. The 2018 season started with a lot of bad luck. He fell at the Mallorca Challenge, injured his back and had to stop training for a few days. Returning to training in southern Spain, the 33-year-old crashed into a car. Now he has to pause again. He has already canceled his start at the Ruta del Sol.
“I couldn't brake in time and fell headfirst into the vehicle. Fortunately, the X-rays showed that nothing was broken. But my face is badly bruised. My nose needed stitches. I also have whiplash. That hurts the most at the moment.”
