Cycling: Davide Rebellin has passed away. The 51-year-old former driver of Team Gerolsteiner collided with a truck during a training session. According to media reports, he died at the scene of the accident.

During a training session, the 51-year-old collided with a truck in the municipality of Montebello Vicentino. He must have overlooked him at an intersection and didn't stop after the accident. So far it is unclear whether the truck driver saw the cyclist at all and therefore noticed the crash at all. The paramedics could only determine the death of Davide Rebellin.
Rebellin was a professional cyclist until his death
Davide Rebellin loved his sport like no other. Even at the age of 51, the Italian was still active in the cycling circus. At the end of the season he wanted to resign. From 1997 to 2009 he was one of the most successful riders in road cycling. Unforgotten are his three victories at the Flèche Wallonne and his successes at Liège - Bastogne - Liège, the Amstel Gold Race, Tirreno - Adriatico and Paris - Nice. Between 2002 and 2008 he drove for the German team Gerolsteiner and as captain was the absolute driving force. After that, his sporting successes decreased, but he just didn't want to give up the bike. He signed with eight other teams, driving for Work Service Vitalcare Vega that year. Just a few days ago, he was still taking part in official road races in Italy. After almost exactly 30 years, his successful career has now come to an abrupt end.
