At age 26: Gino Mäder dies after falling at the Tour de Suisse

Cycling: Cycling mourns Gino Mäder. On yesterday's stage of the Tour de Suisse, the Swiss fell on a descent. Today his team Bahrain - Victorious announced the death of the 26-year-old.

Gino Mäder fell on the descent from the Albula Pass

Cycling is in shock. After his fall at the Tour de Suisse yesterday Gino Mader died in hospital today. The only 26-year-old Swiss fell on the descent from the Albula Pass and had to be revived. This accident happened 6,3 kilometers before the stage finish in a long curve, as a result of which Gino Mäder fell down a slope with Magnus Sheffield, who also fell. Today his team Bahrain - Victorious confirmed that they had to say goodbye at the hospital around 11:30 am.

“Despite the best efforts of the phenomenal staff at Chur Hospital, Gino did not make it through his final and greatest challenge and at 11:30am this morning we had to say goodbye to one of the brightest lights on our team. Gino was an exceptional athlete, an example of dedication, a valuable member of our team and the wider cycling community. His talent and passion for the sport inspired us all.”



The UCI is devastated to learn of the death of professional cyclist, Gino Mäder.
