Test/product news: It is well known that cycling shoes are a very individual subject, but the new Specialized S-Works 7 comes with a number of innovations that make us curious. Of course, we also ask ourselves the question, what makes a perfect cycling shoe? In addition to a perfect fit, the top priority is of course exceptional power transmission, unbeatable comfort and, of course, a great style. All of this could now be found in the new S-Works 7.
The ergonomically designed and medically tested Body Geometry outsole and footbed promotes a clean vertical pedaling movement, which increases performance and well-being and prevents injuries, making the ride much more comfortable. A new, super-light sole made of highly rigid FACT Powerline Carbon ensures optimal power transmission and has an outstanding stiffness index of 15.0. The Dyneema mesh incorporated between the 4-way stretch mesh and TPU ensures an extremely stiff connection between shoe and pedal as well as the best comfort. Another novelty compared to its predecessor are the new BOA S3-Snap closures, which can be finely and quickly adjusted thanks to their high-quality material. These CNC-machined aluminum fasteners not only add momentum, they also feature spring-loaded rotary clutches and one-millimeter fine adjustments. The molded PadLock provides superior heel hold and is proven to improve acceleration. The inserts for the cleats made of titanium and aluminum can be turned to mount the cleats 5 mm further back and thus ensure a very individual adjustability of the new Speialized S-Works 7 shoes. What many do not know the heel profile made of anti-slip material can be replaced thanks to a countersunk fastening screw. A new Form Fit with a spacious forefoot area combines direct power transmission and high comfort. With shoe size 42, the S-Works 7 weighs just 224 grams.
Specialized S-Works 7 shoe – What caught our eye?
Since the old S-Works shoe actually fit us very well and still does, we were curious to see what innovations they came up with for the successor model. The result is a completely new shoe with a different shape, different materials, different closures, but even better performance. What we were able to determine in the short test period is that the new materials ensure that the S-Works 7 fits extremely well right from the start. This is mainly due to the fact that the softer materials adapt to the individual foot shape quite quickly. The new closure system was also able to fully convince us, of course it is more of a gimmick, but still very comfortable to wear and use. You could literally feel the stiffness of the new sole when you started. So if you can cope with the usual good properties of the S-Works models, such as Body Geometry, and want to continue using the advantages, you should definitely take a closer look at the new Specialized S-Works 7. In our opinion, a real competition weapon that still offers great comfort and therefore does not allow any compromises.
