Clothing: Test: Fizik Aria R3 & Fizik Tempo Powerstrap R5 - stylish, sporty, comfortable

August 2, 2019 by Florian Nowak

Test: Fizik has always stood for the best performance and ergonomics. This is also reflected in the Fizik road bike shoes Aria R3 & Fizik Tempo Powerstrap R5, which complement the model range with the high-end Infinito models. With regular professional feedback, you can respond quickly and in detail to the needs of sporty drivers and implement them. We tested the Fizik Aria R3 & Fizik Tempo Powerstrap R5 road shoes.

The shoe is one of the most important links between rider and bike. For this reason, it is particularly important to have a model that adapts to the individual needs of the athletes and offers good performance as well as decent comfort. In addition, shoes have always been a stylish accessory and should also look good. The Fizik Aria R3 & Fizik Tempo Powerstrap R5 complement the manufacturer's road shoe models and offer more cost-effective options compared to the Infinito top models, with first-class all-round performance.

Fizik Aria R3 - Adaptable all-rounder

The Fizik Aria R3 advertises with its particularly adaptable fit. Thanks to the special upper material, the shoe adapts to the shape of the foot right from the start and has the ideal individual fit after just a few rides. Of course, this feature ensures first-class comfort, which makes the trips as pleasant as possible. Despite the good adaptability, the Microtex upper does not lose stability and robustness. Laser perforated and 1,2mm thick, it is ideal for year-round use and offers an ideal blend of light weight, breathability and flexibility, power transfer and support.

You get the best grip thanks to Enhanced Volume Control, two micro-adjustable Boa IP1-B dials with strong, lightly steel-coated nylon tips and light-weight plastic tip guides. The closure system wraps the supple yet protective Microtex upper around the foot for a snug fit with no seam deviations or pressure points. When it comes to comfort, an advanced ventilation system should not be missing. This ensures a pleasant temperature balance and reduces sweating in the shoe to a minimum.

The Fizik Aria R3's Uni Direction Full Carbon outsole is lightweight and laterally stiff for superior power transfer. You can feel this especially in sprints and when riding uphill when you really pedal. Combined with the Fizik Cycling Insole's subtly padded structure and supportive heel counter, power is directly converted into propulsion.

Fizik Aria R3 Features:

The Fizik Aria R3 is available worldwide in five color variants and a wide range of sizes.
• UD carbon outsole
• Weight: 486g (size 42,5)
• Sizes: 37-48 (37 to 47 also in half sizes)
• Price: 275,00 euros

Fizik Tempo Powerstrap R5 - Innovative Velcro design

With the Fizik Tempo Powerstrap R5, a new road shoe was introduced only a short time ago. As the name suggests, the biggest feature is the innovative Powerstrap Velcro design. The Tempo Road series should be characterized above all by a pleasant driving experience and an essential, timeless look. All this is already available for an attractive price of a good 100 euros. So the Fizik Tempo Powerstrap R5 has also been redefined with Fizik's famous form-fitting construction, build quality and attention to detail.

The Fizik Tempo Powerstrap R5 uses what is known as a dual strap design, where an adjustment strap provides additional support regardless of the fit for the instep and midfoot area. Unlike traditional Velcro straps that simply pull two sides of the shoe upper together, Powerstrap features an anatomical strap configuration that wraps around the foot to provide a combination of secure fit and supportive comfort with just two straps. The instep and midfoot of the Fizik Tempo Powerstrap R5 are separately adjustable areas that offer a fully customized fit and compression. The dual Velcro straps are intentionally wide for easy adjustment, a secure fit, and enhanced durability. In our opinion, the Powerstrap system is perfect for riders who prioritize comfort. Nevertheless, the shoe offers great performance, which is of course also due to the comfortable fit. Compared to high-end road bike shoes, the Fizik Tempo Powerstrap R5 is a bit softer and not so optimized for propulsion with the aim of offering a relaxed riding experience.

“We are excited to introduce the new Tempo Powerstrap R5 shoes. The versatile new Tempo shoe structure combined with the proven R5 sole gives us an excellent basis to present our new Powerstrap shoeing and closure system to road riders around the world - whether they are familiar with Fizik shoes or our brand are new. We are proud to share the Tempo Powerstrap R5. – Luca Mathia Bertoncello, Brand Director of Fizik

The Fizik Tempo Powerstrap R5 combines the best of Fizik's proven designs, materials and construction techniques with the new Powerstrap closure design. It features the R5 outsole, which is made of carbon-reinforced nylon with optimal stiffness for efficient power transfer through the pedals and some flexibility for more comfort with a low weight. The upper is flexible to fit snugly but tough enough to protect against wind and weather and remain durable. Perforations aid in temperature management for year-round riding.

The Fizik Tempo Powerstrap R5 is now available worldwide in three colorways and a wide range of sizes.
