Product news: DMT Knit technology for road bike shoes

19 November 2019 by Florian Nowak

Product news: Road bike shoes are becoming more and more unusual, because nowhere else is the individual fit, performance and style so important as with road bike shoes. Thanks to the DMT Knit technology, the Italian manufacturer was able to break new ground in the construction of road cycling shoes by knitting the upper material of the shoes. This should ensure a more comfortable individual fit and better performance.

DMT is part of the family company founded in 1982 by Federico Zecchetto. Based outside of Verona, the company has from the beginning focused on sports shoes and cycling shoes in particular. As part of the Zecchetto Group, DMT has synergies with the brands Cipollini for bicycles and Alé for cycling clothing. DMT additionally benefits from technical know-how and investments in its own factories, which are used to support innovation and production for other athletic footwear brands.

DMT has been making all of its own shoes for almost 40 years while working alongside some of the most successful and demanding riders. For example with top sprinter Elia Viviani, who has been relying on DMT products for a long time. This enables DMT to continuously develop and drive innovations. Having our own factory allows for the focus and know-how to push the boundaries of existing technologies and develop new ones.

The DMT Knit Technology

In just a few short years, athletic footwear has been completely revolutionized with knit construction becoming the standard in sports like running and soccer. DMT has been producing knitted shoes for other sports and brands for over 10 years. This new DMT Knit technology has also been developed and tested for cycling shoes for 3 years. In 2018 the time had come and the world's first cycling shoe with a fully knitted upper material was delivered. After this so-called prototype phase, more sophisticated knitting technologies with their advantages are now being introduced into the entire DMT cycling shoe collection. Riders on the road, in MTB and triathlon should now be able to benefit from the new DMT Knit technology. The knit construction significantly changes the fit and feel of cycling shoes and offers significantly more comfort, although the shoe fits even more closely. The aim of the DMT Knit technology is to offer lighter and less bulky shoes that have an excellent fit, outstanding breathability and quick drying.
