Cycling: The Quick-Step Floors team continues to clear up the Tour of Colombia. After Fernando Gaviria won the first three flat stages, his teammate Julian Alaphilippe struck on the first hilly arrival. The Frenchman also takes the overall lead.
Alaphilippe takes over the win for Quick-Step Floors
From Buganach El Tambo to Alto Boquerón, the pros had to cover 149,5 kilometers on the Tour of Colombia. As expected, the overall leader played Fernando Gaviria (Quick-Step Floors) doesn't matter, because the last 4,4 kilometers were steep uphills of up to a maximum of 13 percent. Instead, his teammate jumped Julian Alaphilippe for him in the breach. The 25-year-old hung on to the rear wheel in the last 200 meters Nairo Quintana (Movstar), in turn Sergio Luis Henao (Sky) followed. Alaphilippe did what he does best: sprint uphill! He didn't give his opponents a chance and was already able to celebrate after the last corner. They were followed by Colombian champions Henao and his compatriot Nairo Quintana.
Narvaez & Alaphilippe the only non-Colombians in the top 11
Has his first win of the 2018 season Julian Alaphilippe also his Ecuadorian teammate Jonathan Narvaez thanks to him, who kept up the pace and eliminated attacks with zum. Both should be the only non-Colombian riders in the top eleven at the end of the day. Some professionals lost time today, but not for the drivers relevant in the overall classification. So are among other things Jarlinson Swamp (Colombia), Richard Carapaz (movistar), Egan Arley Bernal (Sky) and Rigoberto Urán (Team EF Education First-Drapac p/b Cannondale) with stage winner's time.
Julian Alaphilippe:
“I knew the final would suit me, so I worked with Jhonatan Narvaez. We did it perfectly together with the other teams and in the end I was able to ride a big attack and win.”
