Basque Country Tour #2: Evenepoel lays the victory on Alaphilippe

Cycling: Julian Alaphilippe has won the second stage of the Tour of the Basque Country. The French world champion can thank his teammate Remco Evenepoel for this.

Alaphilippe sprints the fastest

It's no secret that Julian Alaphilippe (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl) is a good sprinter - especially when going uphill. Today the French world champion proved this once again. He easily won the 207,6-kilometre section from Leitza to Viana ahead of his fellow countryman Fabien Doubey (TotalEnergies) and the Belgian Quinten Hermans (Intermarché - Wanty - Gobert Matériaux). Above all, Alaphilippe can contribute to the victory Remco Evenepoel (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl). The Belgian prepared his sprint in an exemplary manner. This almost never happened in the first place, because a strong breakaway group made life difficult for the peloton for a long time. In the person of Ibon Ruiz (Kern Pharma) the last fugitive was only caught two kilometers before the finish line. The Slovenian remains the overall leader Primois Roglic (Jumbo - Visma).

LOULOU! The world champ, Julian Alaphilippe wins easily stage 2 of @ehizulia , his first victory of 2022 with a brilliant uphill sprint. The Spanish breakaway had this in the bag but then decided to throw it away. MAYBE! #Itzulia
