Cycling: Daniel Martinez has won the fourth stage of the Tour of the Basque Country. The Colombian prevailed in the sprint of the favorites ahead of Julian Alaphilippe.

Martinez celebrates surprising win in sprint

It was almost enough for victor lafay (Cofidis). Only 900 meters before the finish, the Frenchman was caught by the group of favorites on the 185,6 kilometer stage from Vitoria-Gasteiz to Zamudio. Previously he was part of a breakaway group from which he eventually broke away and tried soloing. After he was caught, the favorites sprinted again. As yesterday should be top favorite Julian Alaphilippe (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl) but didn't win. Daniel Martinez (Ineos Grenadiers) sprinted past by a few centimetres. Diego Ulissi (UAE) finished third. overall leader remains Primois Roglic (Jumbo - Visma).



Yesterday: Bilbao sprints Alaphilippe

Already missed yesterday Julian Alaphilippe (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl) narrowly claimed his second stage win at the 61st Itzulia Basque Country. The 181,7 kilometer section from Llodio to Amurrio started with an uphill sprint bilbao hair (Bahrain-Victorious). The Spaniard was able to intercept the French world champion. of Russia Alexander Vlasov (Bora – hansgrohe) completed the podium.
