The Giant Proshield Anorak is a little out of line in our test - the reason for this is already in the name: The Giant rain jacket is a classic anorak and does not have a full-length front zip. This means that the jacket must always be pulled over your head when putting it on and taking it off - a zip that reaches just below the chest helps with this. The opening is large enough that the Proshield Anorak can be put on quickly and easily, even with the helmet on. But it takes a few seconds longer than with a classic rain jacket.
The material of the Giant jacket is thin, elastic and doesn't feel like a rain jacket at all at first glance and is more reminiscent of a modern rain jersey. The cut is quite sporty, with tight-fitting sleeves and a body-hugging torso. The fit is good, but the jacket is quite small, so it is better to try it on before buying. The hood, which is also made of quite thin material and is hardly bulky when not in use, is very well done. It also fits easily over large helmets and can be adjusted in width.
Openings under the arms that can be adjusted with zips and generous ventilation slits on the back ensure that you don't get too sweaty even when you wear it for a long time. The front pocket at stomach height is clever and practical: Not only can you stow a few utensils here, but it also acts as a space-saving storage option for the entire jacket: simply turn it inside out, stuff the jacket into the pocket and close it with the zipper. In changeable weather, you can store the Proshield Anorak in your backpack quickly and to save space.
The protection against moisture was at a good level at all times: the half-zipper on the front is sealed, and the seams are completely welded. Only on longer rides with a backpack did the material get slightly damp on the inside, but without being completely soaked.
