Clothing: Test: Craft Escape Rain rain jacket

24 May 2017 by Michael Faiss

Cut: Daily life
Size: Turns out normal, sleeves and back short
hood: No

Price: € 159,99

The Craft Escape Rain rain jacket, with its discreetly sporty cut and no hood, is aimed at cyclists who don't want to let a few raindrops stop them from their favorite hobby. At the same time, you don't want to be too sporty and still want to design a jacket that is discreetly suitable for everyday use - a difficult balancing act, especially in terms of cut and fit, which Craft only managed to a limited extent with the Escape jacket. The sleeves and the back are a little too short for our taste, while the jacket itself is rather wide. Of course, such information is always strongly dependent on the physique - but slim, tall people should definitely try it on before buying.

Inside, a mesh net ensures high wearing comfort and a pleasant feeling on the skin, even if it is only connected to the outer material in a few places and the jacket looks a bit "too cheap" at first glance. The hardshell material on the outside has some large reflective applications on all sides and can withstand long periods of rain without any problems. Only in connection with backpack straps does the moisture penetrate a bit into the inside after a while.

Two large zips on the sides under the arms can be opened with a flick of the wrist and provide some cooling inside; this is also necessary if you wear it for a long time, as the material is rather thick and you start to sweat quite quickly, especially with a sporty driving style.

The Craft Escape Rain Jacket tries to bridge the gap between suitability for everyday use and sporting use. While this is quite successful with the features - ventilation and visibility are very good - the cut unfortunately didn't appeal to us as much. The sleeves and back are rather short for a cycling jacket, and the torso itself is quite wide. It reliably keeps rain out, only in combination with a backpack does it buckle after a while.
