Market / Eurobike: At this year's Eurobike, there were plenty of new products to see at the stand of the US manufacturer Crankbrothers. The new Klic pump is particularly interesting, but there are also new features for the wheels and pedals. Also included: the new Highline dropper post.
Crankbrothers 2017: stay flexible with the new mini pump Klic
A completely new product in the lineup of the accessory specialists is the mini pump Klic, which will be available in both an HV (=high volume) and an HP (=high pressure) version. Otherwise, it is often an issue with bicycle pumps: The really big emotions do not want to arise when buying, but once you are standing in the middle of nowhere with flat feet there is nothing more annoying than a malfunctioning mini pump in your backpack or jersey. The concept of the new Crankbrothers Klic convinced us right away; Just. Concept for a mini pump? You read that correctly, because the Klic is a little more than 'just' another pump.
At first glance, however, one might not suspect what is hidden inside: It comes across as plain, with a black plastic handle and a silver metal cylinder. On closer inspection, however, it is already noticeable: Where the air comes out is not the location for the bicycle valve, but a short hose is inserted into this small hole, which is well hidden in the handle of the pump and can be removed in a matter of seconds by folding it over . The Schrader and Presta valve mount sits on one end of this hose, while the other side snaps securely into place on the pump thanks to the magnetic closure. Anyone who has had to use their mini pump once or more on the go will appreciate the 'detour' via a hose. It just pumps much more comfortably and you also protect the valve - especially the sensitive inserts of Presta valves don't like it at all if you tug on them too much.
How Crankbrothers Clic works
The Clic comes in three sizes and variants for both HV and HP. The two top models can also come up with a pressure gauge integrated in the said hose. The largest model also has an adapter for CO2 cartridges integrated into the handle: if you need to go really fast. The other technical data are also convincing: the high-pressure model is said to deliver up to 9,6 bar and even the MTB version only ends at 7,6 bar. The weights range from 115g (for the smallest HV model) to 186g (for the large HV model including CO2 adapter). With a length of 22cm for the smallest model, the Clic is more of a case for the bottle holder or the backpack and will hardly find space in the jersey pocket. The only question that remains is the price: the simple model without a pressure gauge costs €36,99, while the top model costs €55,99. If you can do without the CO2 adapter, you can get away with the middle version for €45,99.
Crankbrothers 2017: Highline seat post with 125mm and 160mm adjustment travel
Vario support and crankbrothers: In the past, this combination did not necessarily have the best reputation - the Kronolog variable support caused problems for many drivers and was consequently taken off the market two years ago. The problems at Crankbrothers were taken to heart and it took a long time to bring a successor product onto the market that excels exactly where the Kronolog had its greatest weaknesses: reliability. The new Crankbrothers Highline was developed from scratch and is based on a robust and almost maintenance-free gas spring inside. Plain bearings from IGUS and a complex sealing system also ensure high reliability over a long period of time.
The Highline is currently available in a version with an adjustment range of 125mm - a bit small for many riders, especially in view of the ever shorter saddle tubes of modern mountain bike frames. A variant with an adjustment range of 160mm should therefore follow in October. The linkage is mechanical and on the underside of the support - the cable runs in the frame and this should therefore also be prepared for it. The handlebar lever is minimalistic and can be attached to the cockpit in almost any conceivable position thanks to a kind of ball bearing.
The Highline is available in 30,9 and 31,6mm and weighs approx. 580g. Crankbrothers is asking €350 for the new dropper post – but there is also a three-year functional guarantee.
Product news: Crankbrothers Highline - New, robust dropper post with 125mm adjustment range
Market: With the Highline, the US manufacturer Crankbrothers is presenting the unofficial successor to its previous Kronolog dropper post. In addition to the name, there have also been some technical changes - a gas pressure spring ensures that it is maintenance-free and the handlebar remote with ball joint can be mounted in almost any conceivable position. However, there is a small drop of bitterness. Dropper posts are among the most influential […]
Crankbrothers wheels 2017: Wider rims for Iodine and Cobalt wheels, new gravel series Zinc
Crankbrothers wheels have now achieved cult status in the MTB sector, mainly because of their unique look. But in the last few years, people have lost touch with the latest developments in the industry in terms of weight and rim width - that will now change for 2017: The Iodine series, designed for all-mountain and enduro, now gets rims with an inner width of 28mm, the lighter ones XC counterparts Cobalt 23mm. The hubs basically remain the same, but could be lightened by 30-50g by reducing material in the right places. The Zinc 3 wheel model is completely new and, with its low weight and narrow rims, is primarily aimed at cross pilots and gravel racers.

Crankbrothers 2017: Detailed improvements for the Double Shot combination pedal and the new Double Shot 3 model
Last year, Crankbrothers presented their new Double Shot combination pedal at the same location in Friedrichshafen: click pedal on one side, flat pedal on the other. For those who want to ride their sporty bike not only with clipless pedals, but also with normal street shoes. Or for beginners and those who are switching, who do not yet feel 100% safe on clipless pedals and prefer to use flat pedals during technical passages.
The Double Shot was very well received and so it was decided to further refine the concept: For 2017, the pedals are given a special, rough coating to improve grip, especially with wet soles. In addition, the Double Shot 3 is a slightly more potent variant that has 'real' screw pins instead of the cast pedal pins and thus provides even more support. The Double Shot 3 will be available in spring 2017 at a price of €125.
