Anyone who says that rain jackets are basically boring hasn't seen the Mavic Ksyrium Pro H2O: Cleverly placed color accents, the asymmetrical front zip and the sporty cut make the jacket a real eye-catcher. Speaking of the cut: the jacket is clearly geared towards sporting use in races and training – the short front, long back, long, pre-shaped sleeves and a stand-up collar without a hood speak for themselves. Overall, however, the Ksyrium Pro H2O is quite short - our slim, 1.88m tall tester found the jacket in size M borderline short, in L again clearly too wide. The only thing that helps here is to try it on before you buy it.
Small, effective reflectors on the chest, back and sleeves ensure good all-round visibility in traffic at night, especially in bad weather. A large back pocket with Velcro and a small zip pocket on the chest offer enough space to stow all the utensils for the ride. Mavic has placed particular value on the ventilation concept: a double zip on the front allows the jacket to be opened 'halfway' - an air-permeable mesh then prevents the jacket from opening completely. Two additional ventilation openings under the arms ensure even more ventilation and make the Mavic one of the best ventilated jackets in the test.
Where there is light, however, there is also shadow: Unfortunately, the solution with the double zip and the mesh in between also inevitably means that you always have to overcome two zips to open the jacket completely. When closing, the mesh almost always gets caught in the sealed main zipper, especially if you try to close the jacket with one hand. On the bike, this can be quite a test of patience.
However, it looks much better when it comes to weather resistance: Fully sealed seams and zippers and Mavic's own Xcelerator membrane reliably keep the rain out. The tight-fitting cuffs, which can also be fixed with Velcro, do a good job. The collar is a bit wide for our taste and in heavy rain a drop or two can get inside.
