Clothing: Test: POC AVIP Rain Jacket

12 May 2017 by Michael Faiss

Cut: Everyday / MTB
Size: Turns out normal
hood: No

Price: € 300,00

The AVIP concept of the Swedes from POC is now a few years old, but unfortunately has lost none of its topicality and necessity: AVIP stands for Attention Visibility Interaction Protection and is intended – in short – to improve the safety of cyclists. Above all, the "visibility part" of the AVIP Rain Jacket is recognizable at first glance. The neon orange of the jacket is just blatant - even in daylight it literally glows and in direct sunlight the jacket is almost dazzling. This principle also works excellently in the dark - the large logo on the back also reflects and makes it even more difficult to overlook it.

The cut of the jacket is extremely sporty and clearly made for road bike boys and girls who are looking for a companion for training in bad weather. The front is extremely short compared to the low back, the sleeves are anatomically preformed and longer on the outside so that your hands stay reasonably dry even in the rain. Otherwise, the POC jacket is extremely tight - thanks to the stretchy material, there is still enough space for a not so well-trained upper body and does not degenerate into a pressed sausage.

On the back we also find a generously sized pocket in which there is even a loop for the bunch of keys. The contents are protected from wind and weather by a sealed zip and a flap above it. Under the arms there are laser-cut ventilation holes so that a little fresh air can get inside even in the heat of the training session. The weather protection of the robust 3-layer material is excellent and was among the best in the test. Even very long and heavy showers could not harm the POC jacket. A drop of bitterness is the somewhat high weight and the large pack size.

The POC AVIP Rain Jacket is an uncompromising jacket in many respects: the cut is uncompromisingly sporty and is clearly designed for racing cyclists. The color scheme is also uncompromising - the bright neon orange is almost dazzling in daylight and guarantees the best visibility even at night. The 3-layer material is very waterproof, but is also relatively thick; stowing it in the jersey pocket is almost impossible.
