We know that sporty rain jackets like the Odlo Tyfoon are tight and can appear a bit bulky at first glance. But even under these premises, we were surprised by the resolutely sporty, narrow cut of the Odlo jacket. The sleeves and back are extremely long, while the front is very short and the jacket itself is very tight. This disqualifies the jacket for any use when you are not sitting on the bike - when standing, the front reaches to the navel. The thin 2,5-layer material is stretchy and thus hugs the body even better. Narrow cuffs, like the collar, fit well into the overall picture.
The Tyfoon is an extremely reduced jacket that in many ways is more reminiscent of a rain jersey. You have to do without pockets as well as ventilation openings. This is probably not a KO criterion for most people, especially when it comes to ventilation, but a bag is very practical, especially on longer journeys. The sealed zip is easy to open and close and, like the jacket as a whole, is very well made - not too surprising given the rather high price.
Even though the collar on the back and a small logo reflect the incident light, we would have hoped for a little more here, also because the gray material is difficult to see in bad weather at night. The pack size of the Odlo jacket is quite small, but unfortunately it is probably too big for most jersey pockets. Its main task: to keep the rain and water out is what the Odlo jacket does brilliantly and was one of the best jackets in the test.
