Market: Campagnolo already presented its MyCampy smartphone app at last year's Eurobike. It took a little longer until the release, but the range of functions of the app has also grown many times over. The free app is a must, especially for owners of Campagnolo EPS groupsets.
Campagnolo MyCampy - Three basic functions and one web portal
After launching MyCampy, you are greeted by a clear screen that makes clear the three basic functions of the app: My Garage, My Sessions and My EPS. While My Garage represents a kind of fleet management for your own bikes and helps to keep an eye on wear and tear and service intervals, My Sessions comes with extensive tracking software for free. The trips are recorded and can then be viewed and analyzed.
The MyCampy web portal, which is also new, is particularly helpful for both functions – i.e. My Garage and My Sessions. Here you get a very clear presentation of your own fleet, you can make changes and add new components. Of course, all of this is also possible in the app, but with significantly less convenience. The website really shows its strengths in the My Sessions area: all recorded rides can be viewed here, including the map, elevation profile, gears used (when used with Campagnolo EPS) and much more.
In principle, MyCampy can be used with all wheels and drives - but the really interesting and sometimes really cool features only come into play in combination with a new EPS v3 drive group - but more on that later. The app is available free of charge for IOS and Android – the release is expected in the coming weeks.
Campagnolo MyCampy – My Garage: The fleet at a glance
The My Garage function is clearly aimed at bike enthusiasts: those who have more than just two bikes in the garage, perhaps with different wheels, and would like to keep track of their fleet. In the first step, of course, you have to create all your bikes or components in the app - while Campagnolo components are already stored and only have to be selected, with third-party manufacturers you are forced to create the components yourself. But don't worry: This also happened within a few minutes.
A bike in "My Garage" consists of five components: frame, rear derailleur, crank (+chainrings), wheels and cassette. Once you have created all your bikes and components, you can choose which bike you want to take to the road the next time you exit MyCampy. The app then records the kilometers driven and saves them with the assigned components.
If you're wondering what the whole thing is for: On the one hand, it's really pretty cool when you can see at a glance at the end of the season how many kilometers you've covered with which bike. But the really practical benefit is that you can keep an eye on the wear and tear of the drive: when is it time to change the chain? How many kilometers can the chainrings still do? Should I have the wheels serviced again before the holiday? These are all questions that can be answered in a matter of seconds with the help of the MyCampy app.
Campagnolo MyCampy - My Sessions: More than just a tracking app
In a way, My Sessions is the heart of the My Campy app: only by recording the routes driven and logging the kilometers covered can the other functions be used sensibly. The handling is very easy and differs only slightly from Strava, Runtastic and Co. Just tell the app to start before driving - done.
In contrast to the other tracking apps, My Campy then asks which wheel is in use today - if you change wheelsets regularly, you can also make this change in the app with just a few taps of your finger. After the trip, all collected data can be viewed and analyzed in the MyCampy web portal. The elevation profile is created with the help of GPS data, so it is at best an approximation – but it is definitely useful as a guide.
Campagnolo MyCampy – My EPS: Tuning for Campagnolo EPS groupsets
But now we come to the big highlight of the My Campy app: the interface to the electronic groups Super Record EPS and Record EPS. The latest interface EPS v3 is required so that the app can communicate with the circuit. The drive groups from the current model year already come from the factory with EPS v3, older EPS groups can be retrofitted with the new interface at low cost.
If the app and drive then speak the same language, the fun can begin: MyCampy always knows exactly which gear is currently in use and registers every change. These processes can then be viewed and the appropriate conclusions drawn: Am I perhaps using the wrong cassette? Should I try other chainrings? With MyCampy you will have your own switching and driving behavior in black and white in the future.
In addition, you can use MyCampy to make numerous settings on the EPS v3 circuit: individual assignments of the shift lever, multishift settings and much more. If you don't feel like fighting through all the options and settings, you can use one of three predefined profiles: Race, Sport and Comfort. While in Race mode, for example, all shifting aids are deactivated and the shifting processes are optimized for maximum speed, in Comfort mode you can enjoy the convenience of the Shift Assist, which automatically counter-shifts when changing the chainring.
