Campagnolo Shamal Carbon: Italian tradition goes endurance

July 20, 2020 by Florian Nowak

Product news: The Campagnolo Shamal is one of the most legendary wheels in the road bike sector. With a new orientation, it should now be the first Campagnolo wheel for endurance use.

The Shamal has stood for innovation and progress since 1992, because at that time they were among the pioneers of the high-profile rim, which today is hard to imagine. The traditional Italian manufacturer followed a similar approach with the redesign of its Campagnolo Shamal wheels. This aims to improve the cyclist's performance during long hours in the saddle, offering comfort and agility in all conditions.

The new Shamal is Campagnolo's first wheel specifically designed for endurance use with a wider rim base that can accommodate more generous tires and offers the rider maximum comfort during races and longer rides. The rim profile with an internal width of 21 mm perfectly matches 25, 28 and 30 mm tires. However, the 21C rim makes this wheel a complete all-rounder that also accommodates larger tires that are ideal for gravel riding. Thanks to the 2-Way Fit technology, Campagnolo guarantees full compatibility with both clincher and tubeless tires. The rim bed without holes, which was achieved by the patented MoMag system, enables low weight, increases rigidity and now supports tubeless tires at the same time, so rim tape is no longer required for sealing. At 1585 grams, the light all-round is one of the highest quality models on the market.

Another great novelty of the new Campagnolo Shamal wheel is the unidirectional high modulus carbon rim profile and the differentiated front and rear wheel profile. 40 mm at the rear ensure effective acceleration and maximum power transfer, while 35 mm at the front ensure the best possible agility in all conditions. The rim is not painted, which emphasizes the quality of the finish and the materials used.

The impeller is completed by the new aluminum hubs with cartridge bearings and cone bearing system, which are very light and extremely powerful. This choice offers superior smoothness and allows for easy adjustment of bearings, reducing potential ball-to-cone play and ensuring extreme precision and durability. Additionally, a ceramic bearing upgrade kit can be purchased to squeeze out the last few seconds. The reliability of the Campagnolo Shamal is guaranteed by the construction of the wheel and the G3 spoking. This has become a Campagnolo trademark over the years, guaranteeing balanced and safe braking in all conditions. The Campagnolo Shamal wheels are now available for 1.299 euros.
