Construction and design of the pedal
Viewed from the side, the very curved shape of the pedal body is striking. The slim silhouette of the aluminum body is also reflected in the measured values: the pedal body has a height of 17 mm at the axle and 16 mm at the outer bridges. The lowest height even measures only about 8 mm. The tread has large cut-outs and eight pins. Six pins are screwed into the pedal body from below and are therefore easy to replace, especially since the protruding part of the screw is unthreaded. The other two pins in the axle area are mounted as threaded screws from above. The axle of the Dartmoor Fever V.2 is made of Cr-Mo, two sealed bearings and one plain bearing guarantee smooth turning of the pedal body.
Before the test / visual impression
The curved shape of the Dartmoor Fever V.2 is certainly worth an eye-catcher, but the clean workmanship is also appealing right away. The pedal looks very high quality and the anodized surface promises to be tough. The couple weighed exactly 398 grams on our scales. The pedal body rotates smoothly and supple around the Cr-Mo axis, so it doesn't get hairy when not under load. The proximity of the pedal body to the crank reduces pedal bottoming on slopes. However, depending on the position of the foot, the inner pin might not be covered by the sole, which means that a holding pin would provide less grip.
field test
As soon as the foot is put down on the Dartmoor Fever V.2 platform pedal, the pins mercilessly bite into the sole. Even the roughest passages are unable to break this "connection". The self-cleaning is fantastic and does its part to ensure that the rider finds a perfect grip on the pedal even in the most adverse weather conditions. In this context, the curved design of the pedal body with the minimized contact surfaces also has a positive effect. Theory and practice are often far apart: In our case, it really was the case that the inner pin was not covered by the shoe. Although only seven pins provided support, the grip was awesome! Therefore, we do not rate the close position on the crank negatively.
After the test
No complaints! The pedal body of the Dartmoor Fever V.2 platform pedal rotates around the axis just as smoothly and smoothly as on the first day. There is no play or wear visible. The pins are all there and are still rock solid. The anodized surface shows only the usual signs of wear.
