Test: As safe as a tank - that's what Swedish cars were said to be for many years. A certain parallel in terms of safety cannot be denied when looking at the POC Trabec. The helmet for enduro riders impresses with a striking look and a very solid construction. But can the POC Trabec also convince when riding? We spent several weeks on the trails in the Eifel with the enduro helmet.
The POC Trabec we tested is the entry-level model of the helmet series, but the manufacturer still has an RRP of 160 euros for it. After this little shock, however, every biker should seriously consider how much his health is worth to him. Of course, the POC Trabec does not lack any safety certificates. The helmet thus meets the standards CE EN 1078 and CPSC 12.03 as well as the Australian standard AS/NZS2063-2008.
The solid polycarbonate helmet shell with aramid-reinforced areas is pulled low at the back of the head. 16 ventilation openings and air channels ensure sufficient, if not perfect, ventilation of the head. However, it must be noted at this point that the helmet shell covers the head over a very large area, which is why ventilation is a very good compromise. It goes without saying that the POC Trabec is manufactured using the in-moulding process. When taking off, the EPS foam absorbs the impact energy.
The sensitive edges of the EPS foam are surrounded by the seamless helmet shell and are therefore well protected from external influences. The helmet straps pass through a specially designed opening. Well done! The antibacterial inner padding of the POC Trabec can be removed and cleaned if necessary. The detachable helmet shield is a delight for all chemists in the plastics industry. It can be bent to extremes without breaking and immediately returns to its original shape.
The POC Trabec, available in three sizes, weighs 350 grams in size M/L. The fit of the helmet is excellent. The size adjustment is done easily via sliders at the back of the head. Another adjustment option, especially for people who wear glasses, is the somewhat fiddly three-stage height adjustment. Once the helmet fits, it fits like a glove. Due to the deep seat, the Trabec almost encloses the head. The helmet feels like a BMX helmet.
Of course, this has an extremely positive effect on the trail. As rough as the trail is, the helmet sits wobble-free on the head like an integral part of the skull. The wearing comfort is maintained even after hours of riding. The processing is top and even after the test we could not see any damage caused by wearing it. Safe and robust like a tank - in this case that also applies to the POC Trabec!
