Testing: POC VPD 2.0 Spine Back 15: safe space on the back

Test: In times of Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, the smartphone should never be missing in everyday life. Most people don't want to do without it on the bike either, so of course you have to carry it with you. A backpack is perfect for this. POC Sports has the VPD 2.0 Spine Back 15 in its range for endurists, which we asked to test.

For the enduro sector, the market is currently overturning. When it comes to backpacks, things are becoming more and more minimalist. It must be small and light, but at the same time offer enough space for the essentials, such as a mobile phone.

Joking aside, we naturally left the cell phone at home during our test and concentrated fully on the product. As the name suggests, the POC VPD 2.0 Spine Back 15 offers 15 liters of volume and has a protector sewn into the back.

This is often mandatory in enduro races and so you have killed two birds with one stone, so to speak. Inside there is a large compartment that offers a lot of space for the pump, hoses and tools. There is an extra compartment for the water reservoir and there is also space for small items such as glasses, chain oil or bars in small pockets with zips. However, these are attached upside down, so that everything in the pockets lies directly on the zipper and everything falls into the large compartment when you open it.

Otherwise, the VPD makes a very good impression. The outside is kept clean without a lot of frills and there is a helmet net that you can use if necessary. Thanks to the flexible fabric, it is even possible to transport all standard full-face helmets. In terms of weight, the VPD 2.0 Spine Back 15 is in the middle. It's not remarkably light, but it doesn't bother you even when it's packed. Thanks to a hip and chest strap, you can adjust the fit to your own body and the backpack stays in place.

The built-in protector left a good feeling. The combination of backpack and protector is not new, but it is still a very sensible combination that POC has implemented superbly with the VPD. Unfortunately, however, the flexibility of the back suffers somewhat. We would have wished that it fitted the body better, especially at the upper end. The upholstery is simple and effective. The large, fairly flat pads do not cause any annoying feelings and, like the straps, ensure a comfortable fit.

Conclusion

The POC VPD 2.0 Spine Back 15 offers every endurist a great overall package. The combination of protector and backpack is a great feature of the backpack and the space is also very generous. You don't have to do without anything here. However, the price of 179,90 euros is official. Compared to similar products, you have to dig deeper into your wallet without being able to enjoy any special advantages.
