Abus Stormchaser Gravel on test: The all-rounder for off-road action

12 October 2021 by Florian Nowak

Test: The Abus Stormchaser is THE all-round helmet from the German manufacturer. The helmet from the middle price segment is said to suit gravel use in particular, although use on the street is of course also possible. We tested the Abus Stormchaser for you.

The Abus Stormchaser is the latest helmet model in the Abus Performance series and joins the successful GameChanger aero helmet and the Abus flagship AirBreaker. The Stormchaser should particularly impress with its versatility, because this helmet is made for every adventure on and off the road and should also be suitable for racing.

The Abus Stormchaser benefits from the most innovative features of high-end helmets. These innovations should give gravel fans a good feeling and a lot of security. With a combination of EPS and PC shell and an extra lower edge protection, you want to combine durability and the best protection for the driver. In our test, we found the finely adjustable Zoom Ace adjustment system particularly pleasant, which ensures an optimal fit and individual adjustability. Nevertheless, you should pay attention to the right size, otherwise the helmet tends to press slightly on the forehead. The closure straps also felt very comfortable, because they are very minimalistic and thus ensure a comfortable fit.

Another highlight of the Abus Stormchaser are the 7 air inlets and 16 air outlets, which is called the Forced Air Cooling System and ensures an ideal head climate even in hot temperatures. With the Air Port, which is already known from Abus, a successful spectacle holder is offered and the so-called ponytail compatibility also ensures an optimal fit for those who wear braids.

The features of the Abus Stormchaser at a glance:

  • In-Mold: Lightweight and stable helmet design thanks to the durable combination of EPS and PC shell
  • Ponytail Compatibility: Helmet well suited for ponytail wearers
  • Half ring: Half-enclosing plastic ring connected to an adjustment system
  • Lower edge protection: Provides additional protection for the helmet from external influences
  • Ventilation: Optimum ventilation for this type of helmet thanks to 7 air inlets and 16 air outlets
  • Forced Air Cooling Technology: Sophisticated ventilation system for optimal head climate
  • High visibility: High visibility thanks to bright reflectors
  • Zoom Ace: Finely adjustable adjustment system with a handy adjustment wheel for an individual fit
  • AirPort: Aerodynamic glasses holder with bracket guide
  • Weight: 220 grams in size M
  • Available in 86 different versions

Conclusion: Abus Stormchaser
