Test trekking bikes 2019: Key data and test field

Even in times of the seemingly never-ending e-bike boom, they still exist: the classic trekking bikes. The perfect companions for everyday life, for the commute to the office, weekend trips, or cycling tours. Naturally with mudguards, modern LED lighting, a luggage rack, and balanced geometry. And let's be honest: Sure, trekking bikes may be a little less sexy than a gravel bike or a stylish urban bike from start to finish, but they do their job – and always reliably, regardless of the weather, the lighting conditions, or the luggage. For us, these qualities are reason enough to select ten representatives of this category. 1.500€ to be put to the test.

Test trekking bikes 2019: test route and riders

What is the best way to test a trekking bike? Where is the natural environment for such an all-rounder? A bit everywhere - that's why our test lap consisted of rough dirt roads, gravel, asphalt, uphill, downhill - everything that you can come across in everyday life. In addition, we tested all bikes in the light and in the dark; After all, the lighting system is a criterion that should not be underestimated. The same applies to the other add-on parts such as mudguards or luggage racks. If it rattles here or the sheet metal doesn't do its job in the right rain shower, it's more than annoying. Fortunately, this was the absolute exception in our test.

Test trekking bikes 2019: That was noticeable

As is now the case with almost all bicycle categories, the same applies to trekking bikes: the range of different orientations, approaches and designs of the area of application is astounding: whether it is the subject of suspension forks or seatposts, tires or geometry - here are both for sporty riders and the right bikes for comfort lovers. As always, a test drive says more than a thousand words. Nevertheless, we try to help you with the purchase decision!
