Test: The outdoor giant Vaude has been present on the bicycle market with its products for a long time. With the Hanko II gloves, we are now taking a closer look at the successors to the popular Hanko.
The look of the Hanko II is as usual from Vaude, elegant and simple. The gloves come in a minimalist black - only two small Vaude logos and a large reflective stripe can be found on the back of the hand. When it comes to material, Vaude relies on its own Windproof 100 material. Similar to the materials of the competition, this is a windproof, water-repellent and breathable softshell membrane. The palm of the Hanko II consists mainly of synthetic leather - the ball of the thumb, middle finger and thumb are reinforced with silicone prints. Vaude does without the latter on the index finger - a non-slip silicone print would not necessarily correspond to the sense of a touchscreen-compatible coating.
Unfortunately, the fit of the gloves is disappointing. The fact that our tester's fingers appear very short and the palm of the hand very large may be due to anatomical conditions. Much heavier, however, weighs the only very limited stretchable upper. As a result, the glove constantly slips when you change your grip on the handlebars and creases on the top and bottom. The fleece lining, which is not connected to the outer material, is also problematic. As a result, the two layers constantly slip against each other when gripped, the outer material creases, which then causes pressure points after a short time, also because there is no padding. These shortcomings are regrettable, also because the Hank II do a lot of things right: The silicone prints ensure a very good grip and the fleece trimmings on the thumb are practical for fighting sweat on the forehead.
The mixed fit is all the more annoying, since the Vaude are really very good in terms of insulation. The outer material is absolutely windproof and stays waterproof for a really long time, even in heavy rain. The fleece inside the Hanko II keeps your hands pleasantly warm and also manages to thaw cold hands very quickly.
