Test: Deflect is English and means something like "distract, fend off" - in this respect the name of the Specialized Deflect Glove says it all. The simple black glove proves to be one of the warmer representatives of its category in the test and also appeals with its clever details.
The upper of the Deflect is noticeably different from that of many other competitors. It is significantly thicker and stronger without having any disadvantages in terms of flexibility. Specialized uses synthetic leather on the palm, which is complemented by gel padding in the palm area. The simplicity of the glove is broken only by isolated reflective inserts such as the Specialized logo on the back of the hand. As is common nowadays, the index finger and thumb have coatings that enable the operation of a touchscreen.
The fit of the Specialized glove is good, but differs somewhat from the mass of gloves. The fingers are rather short in relation to the palm - as with all gloves, the final fit is largely dependent on anatomical conditions. The gel padding in the palm area made an exceptionally good impression. These are not too thick, but provide a noticeable plus in comfort and also prevent slipping off the handlebars thanks to the silicone prints. The preformed fingers make it much easier to grip shifters and brakes. The cuff made of a strong, neoprene-like fabric reaches loosely over the wrists and prevents cooling at this critical point.
In terms of thermal insulation, the Deflect really stands out from the crowd. The combination of the windproof and slightly thicker outer material and the soft fleece-like fabric on the inside works excellently even in temperatures around freezing - even your fingers stay warm for a long time. The only pity is that the upper material is not water-repellent and the thick material soaks up quite quickly and then takes a little longer to dry.
