Test: The Index Windbreaker gloves from POC are a rather thin and sporty representative of the transition gloves category. But its unique selling point lies precisely in the very sporty orientation, combined with a number of useful features and a certain degree of weather resistance.
As soon as you put on the Poc gloves, which are bright blue in our case, you notice the extraordinarily good fit. The gloves fit snugly, need some persuasion to get them on securely, but then they literally melt into your hand. The cut, which is adapted to cyclists, is also immediately noticeable: the hands take on a gripping shape as if by themselves - this is perfect for use on the bike, but may be a bit annoying for some in everyday use. The windproof material on the back of the hand is flexible enough that you never feel constricted.
Overall, the POC Index Windbreaker looks fairly reduced and minimalist. There is no padding on the palm or reflective inserts - while the former can be considered a question of personal taste, the latter is more of a deficit. After all, the windbreakers offer a special coating for touchscreens on the thumb and there is also a small sweat wiper made of terry cloth in the wrist area.
When it comes to the insulating effect, the glove has to pay tribute to its very sporty orientation and the thin material. Although the material on the back of the hand reliably keeps the wind out and the roughened, fleece-like fabric on the inside warms the hands a little, the POC are still only suitable to a limited extent for the conditions in autumn. Fingers and hands get cold too quickly and the non-water-repellent material soaks up too quickly even in light rain.
