Test: Scott has been a constant on the bicycle market for many years: bikes, clothing, equipment - the product range covers almost every area of the sport. The Winter LF is intended to be an all-round glove for the cold season from autumn to spring – our test shows that it meets these high standards.
When you first look at the Winter LF, you will notice the many different materials used for the glove. The majority of the back of the hand consists of the Windstopper membrane from Gore, which is interspersed with large reflective applications, thick neoprene inserts in the knuckle area, a thinner, elastic band and fleece on the thumb. The underside, or the palm of the hand, is no less complex: Here, something dominates that looks like snakeskin at first glance - but in reality it is PU-coated, waterproof synthetic leather. There are two large but thin gel pads in the forehand area and a special fabric on the index finger that allows touchscreens to be operated.
So there is a lot to discover with this glove, but other factors are decisive. But the first time you try it on, it becomes clear that the mix of materials has its purpose. The neoprene inserts in the ankle area are heavily preformed and ensure that the hand almost grabs the handlebars by itself. They also provide a little extra protection when black ice or wet leaves take their toll. The waistband made of thin stretch material is very flexible and encloses even the tester's thin forearms tightly and firmly. The fleece material on the thumb is extremely absorbent and therefore the natural enemy of every drop of sweat on the cyclist's forehead.
The advantages of the material mix mentioned at the beginning are also evident in terms of weather resistance. The PU-coated palm is particularly noteworthy here. Wet grips or grips covered with snow residue are no longer a problem, the moisture stays outside. The Windstopper membrane on the back of the hand flexes its muscles in cool temperatures: The wind stays outside and even light rain cannot harm the material. Praiseworthy: Not only the membrane itself is water-repellent, but also all other materials used on the back of the hand. The inside of the gloves is only roughened and we didn't expect any miracles from the insulating effect in connection with the rather thin outer material. But we were pleasantly surprised: Even if the Winter LF are definitely the wrong gloves for cold winter days with double-digit minus temperatures, they ensure pleasantly warm hands and fingers down to temperatures around freezing point.
