Clothing: Dakine Cross X Bike Glove: MTB/BMX Glove in test

6 April 2015 by Andrew Waldera

Test: The Dakine brand, which is deeply rooted in surfing, has been on solid ground with its range for many years. A not insignificant part of the product range of the company founded in Hawaii covers bike sports. The extensive range includes the Dakine Cross X Bike glove for mountain bikers and BMX riders.

The glove presents itself in an appealing MX look in several available color combinations. In the test, we had the “Blaze” version available in black, red and blue at a price of 44,95 euros. The palm of the glove is made of hard-wearing synthetic leather and has a small padding on the ball of the hand. Dakine has reinforced the heavily used area at the transition to the fingertips with a second layer of synthetic leather. Silicone prints on the index and middle fingers should ensure that the rider can operate the brakes and gears safely.

The backhand of the Dakine Cross X Bike Glove consists of a mix of neoprene, air mesh and stretch polyester. Plastic trimmings are applied to the fingers and the back of the hand. With the terry cloth trimming on the thumb, you can wipe over the goggles or glasses if necessary to quickly ensure a clear view. The spaces between the fingers are made of mesh fabric, and additional stretch elements are integrated on the thumb, middle and index finger for maximum flexibility. The Dakine Cross X Bike glove also has the usual Velcro fastener on the wrist of MX gloves.

The processing of the glove is very neat and clean. The seams are doubled and did not reveal any weak points even after the test. The fit and cut are just as convincing as the glove's flexibility and sensitivity. The wearing comfort is good, the seams are only slightly noticeable in the area of the thumb, but this is not disturbing when driving. Weeks of use and repeated washing in the washing machine could not harm the glove, only the silicone prints on the fingers showed some wear after the test.
