Large selection of tools, low price: XLC Multifunctional Tool TO-M20 in the test

February 16rd 2024 by Andrew Waldera

Test Minitools: With XLC (short for x-cellent bike components), the Accell Group has a brand that specializes in bicycle components. In addition to bicycle parts, the portfolio also includes accessories and clothing. When it comes to tools, XLC also doesn't skimp on a huge selection. The range of multitools alone currently includes no fewer than 14 models. One of them is the XLC Multifunctional Tool TO-M20, which we tested.

XLC Multifunctional Tool TO-M20: Structure and processing

Nobody should be misled by the item name: In contrast to many multi-tools from other manufacturers, the number in the product name says nothing about the number of tools. The XLC Multifunctional Tool TO-M20 offers 15 functions that span approximately 75 x 56 x 19 millimeters. The individual tools are relatively long and make a decent impression in terms of workmanship. The nickel-plated anti-rust coating also ensures this. The tools are reliably held in place by a torsion-resistant frame. The brand logos embedded on the sides not only look good, but also increase grip.

Handling the mini tool

The XLC Multifunctional Tool TO-M20 fits well in the hand and allows efficient work thanks to its stable construction. If the screws are a little tighter, the rigid and torsion-resistant housing can be used very well as a lever. In practice, the features of the mini tool leave almost nothing to be desired. The wide range of Allen keys is worth highlighting, as are the two spoke keys, the three screwdrivers and the T10 / T25 Torx keys. A longer lever on the chain tool would certainly be advantageous for better handling, but makeshift chain repairs are also possible. However, we would like the lever to be fixed to prevent it from unintentionally unfolding.
