Mini tool not just for trail adventurers: Crankbrothers M20 in the test

19 January 2024 by Andrew Waldera

Test Minitools: With the M20 Minitool, Crankbrothers says it offers the ultimate companion for trail adventures. The tool actually comes with some features that make you sit up and take notice. Not only does it sound good, it actually is. Our test shows what the compact tool can really do.

Crankbrothers M20 mini tool: construction and processing

The high design standards of the US brand are also evident when looking at the M20 mini tool. The color anodized aluminum side walls are as pleasing to the eye with their design and workmanship as the precisely crafted tools. And there was no saving on their number. With a total of 20 functions, the area of application extends far beyond the most necessary roadside repairs. In addition to the most common tools, you will find a brake disc straightening tool, an 8 mm open-end wrench and a TL tool. Five matching tire plugs are included in the removable storage box. The storage box has two functions: On the one hand, it serves as a storage space for patches, chain locks and small change, and on the other hand, when attached, it prevents the chain tool from randomly twisting during transport.

handling

The well thought-out composition of the tool and its quality are just as convincing. The tool sits comfortably in the hand and the ribbing on the side walls increases grip. The chain tool itself acts as a small multifunctional tool as it also contains three spoke wrenches, a brake disc alignment tool and an 8 mm open-end wrench. Despite the great design, pushing out a chain rivet - like any other multifunctional tool - requires a lot of force. A special feature of the Crankbrothers M20 mini tool is the ability to repair a tubeless tire. Equipped with the 2-in-1 rasp and insert tool, a tire can be repaired quickly on a tour. Since the included patches are only suitable for small cracks, we recommend adding wider plugs later. All that's missing for a perfect appearance are tire levers and a tighter closure of the storage box - but that's complaining at a very high level.
