Wahoo Kickr Steer: Now also steer on the exercise bike

7. February 2023 by Florian Nowak

Product News/First Ride: With the Wahoo Kickr Steer the manufacturer of fitness technology takes the indoor cycling experience to the next level and wants to take the next step towards innovative, unsurpassed first-person realism. The new Kickr Steer Element is intended to take up the control functionality in Wahoo X and the virtual RGT platform and, thanks to individual steering maneuvers, bring even more driving fun and reality into your own four walls.

With the introduction of the steering functionality in Wahoo X and in particular in the virtual cycling platform RGT, Wahoo Fitness has launched a new accessory with the Kickr Steer Element, which can implement these functions on the hardware side. With this, Wahoo aims to further its leadership in the indoor cycling category and bring even more reality indoors to offer users a realistic and immersive riding experience.

Users have three simple options to integrate steering functionality into their indoor driving experience. Wahoo Kickr Bike users can use the integrated handlebar thumb buttons on the inside of the brake-shift grips to control their position.

As a real novelty, the new Wahoo Kickr Steer accessory is used in this case, which is controlled via your own mobile device and the RGT Remote app. This new add-on allows drivers to direct their virtual avatar via easily accessible thumb paddles. These in turn tilt the actual steer tray on which the smartphone with the additional RGT Remote app is located. This intuitive method of control can be individually adjusted and is therefore always in the right ergonomic position, regardless of whether it is the upper or lower handlebar grip. The Wahoo Kickr Steer Element mounts to standard handlebars and comes with a premium mount that can also be used for the user's bike computer.

While the user's avatar position on the virtual road was previously automated and they used their power to avoid or pass through other cyclists, RGT Steering brings more reality to strategy and indoor cycling fun. Similar to in real outdoor cycling, riders can find the sweet spot in the middle of the pack, push the pace at the front, tighten a corner to gain position, or launch an attack. Combined with Race Radio, drivers can communicate and interact to benefit from group dynamics. Wahoo continues to innovate with a focus on group and community features that make RGT the premier indoor cycling platform to interact with others and enjoy the realism of road riding and indoor racing.

“Steering is an integral part of real cycling, so it's only natural that this aspect of riding carries over to indoor cycling as well. Wahoo has taken a new, innovative approach to steering with RGT. The result is a truly unique and immersive experience that allows indoor cycling to better reflect the excitement and strategy of outdoor riding. The steering provides Wahoo X users with a more immersive, immersive, and enjoyable indoor cycling experience, which is our ultimate goal.” —Mike Saturnia, CEO of Wahoo

In addition to the Kickr Steer, the integration can also be used on the Kickr Bike via the Wahoo software. Last but not least, you also have the option to steer through the streets of RGT via the RGT Mobile Remote App or the RGT Game App using the on-screen arrow keys or the computer keyboard.

Wahoo Kickr Steer - First Ride

Even before the official launch, we had the opportunity to test the steering via the Wahoo Kickr Steer Element in the beta version. The setup takes just a few minutes and is actually possible on any bike. Even if we didn't think so, the steering function brings significantly more riding fun to the indoor cycling experience, because the additional strategic aspect provides even more thrills, especially in competition rides. Community trips should also appear even more real and attractive as a result. A more detailed test on Velomotion will follow shortly.
