Clothing: Lizard Skins Monitor Traverse: Comfortable long finger gloves with gel padding

August 20, 2021 by Andrew Waldera

Lizard Skins Monitor Traverse

Test: Equipped with gel padding and breathable materials, the Lizard Skins Monitor Traverse promises a high level of comfort and functionality on mountain bike tours. We wanted to find out in a test whether the long-fingered glove is really suitable for any kind of adventure, as the manufacturer promises.

The Lizard Skins Monitor Traverse long-finger gloves come with everything you need to plan long mountain bike tours without worrying. This includes the generously dimensioned gel padding, which extends over three areas of the palm. The ball of the thumb and the transition between the metacarpal bone and the fingers are padded, with the area towards the index finger being given its own padding. The designers therefore took into account all sensitive areas with increased pressure loads.

Lizard Skins Monitor Traverse: Clever material mix of AX Suede, mesh and neoprene

The palm consists of robust yet soft AX Suede, a synthetic material that feels like suede but also has many other positive properties such as water resistance and a slight stretch behavior. In order to better protect the sensitive area between the thumb and forefinger, the material in this area is a little more generous. The upper hand of the Lizard Skins Monitor Traverse long finger glove has a high degree of elasticity with a combination of flexible mesh and neoprene. The closure is a Velcro fastener.

Comfortable gel padding minimizes annoying vibrations

The wearing comfort of the Lizard Skins Monitor Traverse knows how to convince from the first meter. The strategically arranged gel pads do their job. Disturbing vibrations are minimized and the hand is noticeably relieved. Due to the hand position favored by the gel padding, comfort is additionally increased. Anyone who suffers from numb hands or tingling fingers could possibly get rid of their problem with this glove. This is of course individual, it worked for us. Despite the comfortable gel padding, neither the grip nor the non-slip grip on the handlebar suffer.

Silicone applications yes, but not everywhere

The backhand combination of flexible mesh and neoprene adapts perfectly to the shape of the hand. In addition to the very breathable mesh, the slightly lighter areas between the fingers ensure sufficient cooling in summer temperatures. The glove fits like a glove thanks to the mix of materials and does not restrict freedom of movement in any way. Of course, the usual silicone prints on the brake fingers are not missing for extra grip. It looks different when you switch gears. The tip of the thumb should either be reinforced in this respect or at least have silicone applications - unfortunately neither of these things is the case in this case.
