Cycling: Lennard Kämna has won the fifth stage of the Tour of Catalonia. The 24-year-old German arrived at the destination as a soloist.
Kämna prevails
Today he finally got his reward. Lennard Kamna (Bora – hansgrohe) celebrates the day's victory on the fifth stage of the Tour of Catalonia. The German was part of a 42-man breakaway. Shortly before the finish, he was able to break away with two companions. No one could follow him when he attacked again. The Portuguese Ruben guerreiro (EF Education First – Nippo) and the Spaniard Mikel Bizkarra (Euskaltel – Euskadi) complete the podium. The Ineos trio continues to lead in the overall standings Adam Yates in Richie porte and Geraint Thomas.
Huge escape group
Today we saw a whopping 41 breakaways on the 201,1 kilometer long fifth stage from La Pobla de Segur to Manresa. After a hectic start, several groups were able to break away from the peloton. Finally got ahead Remy Cavagna (Deceuninck – Quick-Step) out of the dust. Behind him, a 41-strong chasing group formed with the Germans Lennard Kamna (Bora – hansgrohe) and Ben Zwiehoff (Bora – hansgrohe), as well as the Swiss Sebastian Reichenbach (Groupama – FDJ) and Marc Hirschi (UAE). As it went up the Port de Monserrat, a few professionals were able to catch up with the soloists. The fight for the day's victory then began downhill to the finish.
