Volta Ciclista a Catalunya #3: Pogacar also wins in Port Ainé

March 20, 2024 by Michael Behringer

Pogacar Catalonia Landa

Cycling: Tadej Pogacar won today's stage after yesterday's. On the third section, the Slovenian once again gave the competition no chance uphill. With this he celebrates the 66th victory of his career.

Pogacar counters Landa's attack

You can't blame your opponents for not trying. But against Tadej pogacar (UAE) all drivers currently have no chance. After the second stage of the Tour of Catalonia, the Slovenian also won today's third stage over 176,7 kilometers from Sant Joan de les Abadesses to the Port Ainé ski area. As Mikel Landa (Soudal – Quick-Step) 7,4 kilometers from the finish, Pogacar easily followed, only to attack himself shortly afterwards. Only at the finish could his competitors see him again. Behind them, Landa secured second place Antonio Tiberi (Bahrain-Victorious).

UAE has everything under control

First, ten outliers changed their minds Hugh Carthy (EF Education – EasyPost) and ethan hayter (Ineos Grenadiers) the racing action. But the UAE Team Emirates never allowed a big lead in any phase. The leading group was caught up again before the final climb began. Promptly tried Victor de la Parte (Euskaltel – Euskadi) his luck. But the 37-year-old Spaniard was also powerless against the tempo dictated by the men in white. After he caught up, he tensed up Jan Hirt (Soudal – Quick-Step) at the top of the favorites group, before becoming captain Mikel Landa (Soudal – Quick-Step) was the first favorite to attack.
