Cycling: Sam Bennett has won the fourth stage of the UAE Tour. In the mass sprint he left David Dekker and Caleb Ewan behind. Pascal Ackermann was again too early in the wind and therefore had no chance.
Bennett completes assist from Morkov
First win of the season for Sam Bennett (Deceuninck - Quick Step). The Irishman prevailed in the Sprint Royal after 204 kilometers from Al Marjan Island to Al Marjan Island. In doing so, he was again allowed to rely on a perfect preparatory work by his teammate Michael Morkov (Deceuninck – Quick-Step) trust. The Dane calmly drove his captain forward and delivered him in the last 200 meters. Before that, the sprinter teams enjoyed a relatively quiet working day. After a long time no breakaway group formed, broke up with the two French Olivier LeGac (Groupama – FDJ) and Francois Bidard (AG2R – Citroën) only two drivers who could easily be controlled.
Ackermann again much too early in the wind
The Dutchman finished second again – just like on the first stage David Decker (Jumbo - Visma). The son of ex-professional Erik Dekker continues to draw attention to himself on the UAE Tour. The podium completes Caleb ewan (Lotto – Soudal). Unfortunately only with rank 6 has to be content Pascal Ackermann (Bora – hansgrohe). Although staged perfectly, he was unable to complete his long sprint to the finish line. Again, the German was just too early in the wind, as so often in the sprints of the past year. countryman Phil Bauhaus (Bahrain – Victorious) was seventh. Tour winner remains in the overall standings Tadej pogacar (UAE) in the lead.
