Cycling: Team Ineos achieved an impressive double victory on the third day of the Tour de la Provence. Ivan Sosa won ahead of teammate Egan Bernal and thus also takes the lead in the overall standings.
No chance for the escapees
On today's third stage of the Tour de la Provence, a preliminary decision was made about overall victory. As expected, the previous overall leader lost David Ballerini (Deceuninck – Quick-Step) the leader jersey. The 153,9 kilometer section from Istres up to the Chalet Reynard on Mont Ventoux was clearly too difficult for the strong sprinter. And even the day's breakaways couldn't hold their own against the best climbers in the peloton.
Sosa and Bernal ensure a double victory
Harold Tejada (Astana – Premier Tech) and Matteo Fabbro (Bora – hansgrohe) opened the fireworks 9,0 kilometers from the finish. But Ineos reacted and quickly closed the gap that had arisen. As Ivan Sosa (Ineos) went on the offensive, the only 21-year-old Belgian took over Mauri Vansevenant (Deceuninck – Quick Step) the tracking work. When he was at the end of his strength, sat Julian Alaphilippe (Deceuninck – Quick-Step) his attack. Formed together with the world champion Egan Bernal (Ineos) and Wout poels (Bahrain – Victorious) the chasing trio. But they couldn't catch up with the leader. Egan Bernal even managed to complete the double victory with an attack just before the finish line. Austria Patrick Conrad (Bora – hansgrohe) came in strong tenth.
