MTB-News/Children's MTB: The Spanish manufacturer Orbea is following the 29er Laufey trail bike with several models for children as Orbea Rundey Junior. Children's MTBs in three wheel sizes, a total of eight variants - all kids will find what they are looking for here without their parents having to dig too deep into their pockets. And siblings no longer argue about the prettiest color.
The Orbea Rundey could already delight the big bikers. The versatile trail bike with the long-travel fork is aimed at all those who don't want to commit to one subtype of mountain biking, but just want to experience pure off-road fun. In addition, the twenty-niner is available from around 1.250 euros - so not only a bike for frequent riders and specialists, but also attractive for beginners.
And what if bikers have children? Then the Orbea Rundey Junior comes into play, with which Orbea enables four-year-olds to get started with "real" mountain biking. That fits, especially since Rundey is Loki's mom in Nordic mythology - the mother of all cheeky badgers, and they'll be very happy with the 20 to 27,5 inch wheels.
The Orbea Rundey Junior models have all the characteristics of children's bikes
Because the special thing about the Spanish speedsters is that Orbea has transferred the essential features of its trail bikes to children's bikes, but has paid attention to everything that makes a good bike for the youngsters - a low standover height, for example, a low bottom bracket and a rather short sitting position, as well naturally adapted components such as narrower handlebars and shorter cranks. This is what can be found in the eight Rundey models in total, in addition to equipment that is tailored to different requirements and abilities, from functional to sensational.
In terms of price and equipment, the 20 H30 represents the entry into the world of Rundey, suitable for a body height of 1,15 to 1,35 m. The compact bike rolls on 2,2 inch wide Kenda tires, which are also suitable for the Shock absorption are responsible, because the 519 euro expensive (?) Bike does not yet have a suspension fork. Like all Rundeys, it comes with hydraulic disc brakes and a 1x gear system, which provides nine gears including reduction. Interesting: Orbea already relies on a fairly flat fork here, which offers directional stability at high speeds and ensures safety on steep downhill sections.
Suspension for big jumps
Small boys and girls who want to make big jumps have to go a little further (but not much): the 20 H20 already has an air suspension fork and dropper post (220 mm) installed for a surcharge of 50 euros; the top model 20 H10 for almost a thousand comes with a noble Manitou fork with 100 mm travel.
Orbea does the same with the 24s (1,35 to 1,55 m): 24 H30 and 24 H20 each cost 70 euros more than their smaller counterparts, have ten rear sprockets and again have hydraulic brakes and a retractable seat post (75 mm travel). . Like the 20-inch model, the 20 H20 has a Suntour air-sprung fork with 80mm of travel; Like its little brother, the 24 H10 costs 979 euros with a Manitou fork.
The Rundey Junior is very well equipped for the big ones
Scaled up to 27,5 inches, the same bike is available for the same price as the Rundey 27 H20 for riders between 1,40 and 1,60 m tall: again with ten gears and now with 120 mm suspension travel from a Suntour fork. The top model 27 H10 is then priced and in terms of equipment at the level of adult bikes: for 1.269 euros there is a Marzocchi Bomber Z2 with 120 mm travel, twelve-speed gearbox with 11-51 and of course a dropper post again, this time with 100 mm travel .
The Spaniards have come up with something else so that there is no sibling dispute about the Orbea Rundey Junior: All models are available in two color variants - black with rainbow colors and light blue with red accents. From toddlers to teenagers, you can spend your entire childhood on mountain bikes that look identical - which are optimally tailored to the abilities of their small and large users right from the start. And maybe it will continue after that with a 29-inch Laufey for adults...
